Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly take their boldest experimentation underground--risking their careers by pushing the boundaries of science to serve their own curiosity and ambition. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature of uncommon intelligence and an array of unexpected physical developments. At first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams. But as she grows and learns at an accelerated rate, her existence threatens to become their worst nightmare.
Splice Film Synopsis
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named "Dren", the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.

I agree, this is bad!I have to chime in the the one star rating. I saw this in the theater and stayed only to see how bad it could get. This will go down as one of the worst sci-fi movies ever. ***Spoiler*** What is up with the boyfriend having sex with the human-creature hybrid? And the creature turning female and raping the female scientist, who then agrees to have the resulting baby? I've never sat through more awkward and horrifying moments in a movie. I must say some who were offended completely Internalized every scene with Dren and it says alot about human psychology. They were used to seeing themselves in a herione's place. And when they followed their normal fantasy it backfired on them. Ouchies. I'm not insensitive, I'm just saying that if you watch a "HORROR" movie and are horrified, I'd say the movie did it's job.
My girlfriend is such a one. She was openly horrified by "That Scene" while I had one of the biggest laughs of my life when the "Door Opened".

Not your average horror movieThis movie is not for everyone, and it revels in that position. This isn't a standard sort of horror movie, this is psychological horror. The downward spiral of events as they become more and more morally apprehensive, the ending, all to make the watcher as uncomfortable as possible. Awkward & twisted - Not even worth rentingThe story line was interesting the first 1/2 of the film. About 3/4 of the way in it just started going down hill and by the last 1/4th it totally went off the rails and was just trying for shock value. I got to see an early screening of this and was so glad that I didn't pay the price of admission. It was by far one of the worst science fiction/ horror flicks I've ever seen.
