Great movie; aweful sound qualityThe movie is five stars. Sound quality of the iTunes version is aweful, though. More specifically: it seems as if this was mixed for the soundtrack/music. As a result dialog often is very low and at times very hard to hear unless you really turn up the volume, but then you have to turn it down again when music kicks in. Great filmAmerican Graffiti is a beautiful film visually. The opening shot, with all those neon lights and the sunset in the background, almost makes me swoon. I love watching all these shiny cars driving around in the dark. Also, the music is used to great effect. In so many movies music is used as a gimmick, but in this film the music is such a part of the environment, it's echoing all over the streets, and everybody is listening to the same radio station. And I like all these characters, they're all funny and vulnerable in their own ways. I don't think the movie is nostalgic, per se, it's just depicting a particular time and place. It depicts a time when youth culture was still mostly untainted by corporate America. U.S. involvement in Vietnam was still a couple years away.
