Francis Ford Coppola's provoking mystery-thriller stars Gene Hackman as Harry Caul, an expert surveillance man. A routine wiretapping job turns into a nightmare when Harry hears something disturbing in his recording of a young couple in a park. His investigation of the tape and how it might be used sends Harry spiraling into a web of secrecy, murder and paranoia.
Based on a true story of a meeting in June 1945 between two powerful men with very opposite philosophies and perspectives on the future of their country.

Pretty goodGene Hackman is a highly underrated actor, and he showcases his talents in this film. Ten bucks says the mic was in the saxophone..Score: 4/5
SleeperDon't bother. This must be an example of the Emporers New Clothes.....I don't see what the others like about this movie. I wasted $3.99. Normally I love anything Gene Hackman does.....not this time. Slow and NOT thought provoking..Score: 2/5
Terrible FilmI thought I was going to be watching an entertaining film that was off my radar. Instead, I was tortured with a slow, pointless film that had no business ever being made. The people who gave this film good reviews must be fans of tedium..Score: 1/5
Love it!!!Coppola it's such a good director. Why can't make movies like this anymore. Slow beautiful pace... Credible plot... Sigh....Score: 5/5
SlowThis is a slow movie. Slow movies are not bad, but they are usually carried by compelling dialogue, and I honestly was bored with it. After seeing the cast and director, I was really excited about watching this, but I was disappointed..Score: 2/5
NOT THAT GREATAs some people have mentioned it is slow. During that slow time, nothing much happens. Which is sad considering that 90% of the movie is slow..Score: 2/5
The ConversationOne of the greatest suspense films ever made. Gene Hackman's best performance outside of The French Connection. Paranoia, corruption, and conspiracy (the major themes from the 1970s), told in a choppy, bits and pieces way that makes the audience work almost as hard as Hackman had to for the payoff. It's not an action adventure with millennium pacing - it's a slow descent into madness. Bleak, lonely, and oppressive. And very, very well done..Score: 5/5
Amazingly suspensefulThis was made in 1974, before detective movies were that advanced in plot. This movie had a rather slow and confusing start, but finished as one of the best and scariest movies I have seen, ever, almost as much as Jaws. Great acting by Hackman. Would have won best picture if not for Godfather Part 2, also a great Coppola film but a lot different..Score: 5/5
