True or not, it is still an inspirational filmI wonder why some people watch films… I watch them to be entertained (and occasionally informed) and this is an extremely riveting film, showcasing some spectacular scenery and with some powerful performances. I suppose what happens is that people want to be like the professional reviewers and find fault in everything they see… it is all a matter of perception. Whether or not this film is based on a true story or not is neither here nor there, it is surely based on the dreams of hundreds of thousands who suffered in the gulags and mines of Siberia dreaming about freedom, the very same freedom that most of us seem to take for granted - just like Mryan points out!

Film Útěk ze Sibiře je založen na pamětech Slawomira Rawicza popisujících jeho útěk ze sibiřského gulagu. Spolu s tisíci dalšími vězni podstoupil Rawicz krutý tříměsíční transport do pracovního tábora na Sibiři.
