In Los Angeles, a gang of bank robbers who call themselves The Ex-Presidents commit their crimes while wearing masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon and Johnson. Believing that the members of the gang could be surfers, the F.B.I. sends young agent Johnny Utah to the beach undercover to mix with the surfers and gather information.

ClassicI liked the movie, I did think some of the casting was bad (I have no idea how Gary Busey was casted), but it had a great story and Swayze was great. Not great, but SOOO GOOD!Okay, it’s a grab-bag of macho B-movie clichés, but it rocks. The plot twists and turns, shakes and shimmies, and stays just inside the lines of suspended disbelief. Classic conflicts play out in a landscape rich in new flourishes. Some of the photography is memorable. Keanu Reeves gives a solid performance as FBI agent Johnny Utah, and Lori Petty is outstanding as love interest Tyler. Patrick Swayze is wooden half the time, but the other half he’s drop-dead cool, and he’s playing a fantasy archetype, anyhow.
If you liked Pulp Fiction; Truth and Consequences, New Mexico; Traffic; Easy Rider; Reservoir Dogs (you fill in the blanks), you ought to like this. If you’re looking for nuance, character development, something that will shake up your value system, trust me: this ain’t it..GoodOldMonkeyScore: 5/5

Where has this film been all my life?I’ve heard of Point Break before but never really seen it in its entirety. After watching it, I was blown away. It truly is one of the definitive action films of the 1990s. Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, two characters on the opposite ends of the spectrum, have such great chemistry. Have a great director like Katherine Bigelow who knows his silly it all sounds so she ramps up the action with one great set piece after another (“You’re about to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft, Johnny. How do you feel about that?!”) combined with beautiful cinematography of the California surf and Mohave desert, with a pounding soundtrack and you’ll almost overlook Johnny’s gimp knee! (Down a shot every time he collapses, grasping his knee, just when he was about to apprehend Bodhi)
Mix it all up and you get one of the best action thrillers with the most laughs, ever!

Český Výborný americký thriller z prostředí surfařské komunity v Californii se skutečně vynikající atmosférou a napínavým dějem. Klasické schéma infiltrace agenta do struktury nějaké proti systému stojící organizace se v tomhle případě režisérce Kathryn Bigelow podařilo naroubovat na příběh oslavující surfing a životní styl i hodnoty s ním spojené a vznikl překvapivě nosný dramatický oblouk. Film navíc překvapivě nezestárl a působí i po letech velice nadčasově, což u podobných snímků nebývá zvykem. Surfing je tu prezentován jako alternativní životní styl kritizující hodnoty konzumní společnosti. Kathryn Bigelow se velice povedl casting - sázka na zatím celkem neokoukaného Keanu Reevese vyšla bezezbytku a odvaha svěřit roli charismatického záporáka profláklé tváři hvězdy romantických filmů Patricku Swayzemu taktéž (jeho jednoznačně nejlepší role). Bod zlomu je skutečně vydařený akční thriller a jeden z nejlepších komerčních hollywoodských snímků všech dob.
