No other horror movie is scarier than this one.First of all if you believe in God & the Devil then it is enough to scare the hell out of you. Makes you want to pray after watching the movie in fear of getting possessed. Regan and her mother were atheist so they were easy targets. Something to think about. As a child the scenes were very graphic and disturbing to me but as an adult I can tolerate it and the dialogue is very interesting. Scariest one of them all!To me this is the scariest film ever made. With “Hereditary” a close number two. What makes this so frightening is that it’s real. From real situations in life that have been officially documented. In the Bible too. That demons and the devil do exist. If you’re not a believer (you should be!) in that then you will just blow this off as nothing. Love the “less is more” strategy in some parts of this movie. You call this scary?I truly got a good laugh out of this "attempt" at horror. The premise was laughable. However, the book, while still lacking, was much better.
If you’d like to get good and scared about the devil, rent "The Omen". The first two movies of the trilogy are sensational, particularly the first time you see them. Start with the first one with Gregory Peck. The second is "Damien: The Omen II" with William Holden.
The third film in the trilogy is worth seeing. Sam Neill puts on a credible performance but the writing is nowhere near as tight as the first two movies.

An Essential Film!This film is essential viewing not only for the horror genre but for all movies. It set the bench mark for the rest of demon possession type films that came after this. Despite it age(since 1973), the Exorcist has held it own. The story line is simplistic but effective. Scary in its day but not over top. It is still a fight between good and evil.
