Jamie Fitzpatrick and Nona Alberts are two women from opposites sides of the social and economic track, but they have one thing in common: a mission to fix their community's broken school and ensure a bright future for their children. The two women refuse to let any obstacles stand in their way as they battle a bureaucracy that's hopelessly mired in traditional thinking, and they seek to re-energize a faculty that has lost its passion for teaching.

So Off BaseAs a teacher I found this movie to be mis-leading and so simplistic to the challenges people face with public education. There were so many unanswered questions to the plot and not to mention, with each character. This film attempted to show that all teachers in public schools are burned out and slaves to the "system" and that the teachers unions are protecting them. This is so false and so untrue to most schools, teachers and districts. Really disappointed that politics took over and this movie, which could have been good, became another piece of Michelle Rhee funded sludge that tanked at the box office..Score: 1/5
Interesting movie - actors amazing (plot TOO manipulative)My problem with movies these days is this: they assume too much that the audience is dumb, hasn't seen other films, doesn't have broad interests. Well maybe screenwriters and producers think this, but most people really like movies and have seen lots of them (on tv and in the movie theater). Everyone adventures from time to time, so I hate when writing dumbs down a story so EVERYONE can connect. You can see them doing it, and it cheapens the whole affair. It's like that boss that keeps talking down to you concerning the job he hired you for. SMH. Stop it. Anyway, Viola Davis, Maggie Gyllenhaal and the hotties who played their husbands/boyfriends (wish they gave Viola's more to do - handsome guy) did an excellent job and it was massive fun to watch them struggle along. But the story just tried too hard to be cute, have those catchy one liners, show snippets of situations easy to figure out. News flash Hollywood, we want to think and figure out stuff and feel stuff we gotta watch all the way through to solve! Everything here was tied into too neat a package. So...all that makes it feel like an after school or movie of the week. :-[ I'd still recommend it though, interesting storyline about teachers/union..Score: 3/5

SpeechlessThis movie is by far the best movie I have seen in quite some time. Despite what most people are saying, which is their own opinion and I respect that, it is inspiring to see a mother go to such lengths to get the best for her daughter. If all mothers were like that then there would be a lot less failure and crime in this country. Here's one of my opinions, you can't critique a movie that is based on something that actually happened, even if it is loosely based on it. This is inspiring and heart warming and Maggie Gyllenhaal did a fantastic job. This is worth more than just a watch. It's worth your attention of not only you but your heart. Pay attention and learn something people!!.Score: 5/5

Vapor from the Orwellian school reform crowdSchool reform sounds nice, but its purpose is malevolent and illogical. Students in 25-30 other countries outperform (by as much as 2 standard deviations) their peers in the US, so reformers argue we should divest some public education $$ and move it via charters and vouchers into for-profit alternatives. The problem with this logic, and a fact reformers never mention, is that ALL of these other countries are outperforming us with school systems that are more public and less private than ours is currently..Score: 1/5
Don't Read the Biased Media Critcs' ReviewsWhen I heard about the plot of this movie I knew right away the movie critics would hate it. Mom takes on teacher's union --- that's all the critics--New York Times, TIME magazine, USA Today, LA TImes-- had to hear to give a thumbs down to this great story and inspiring story. Movie crtitics are liberals first, movie critics second. And I'm 100 percent sure never had to raise their kids in a failing school system..Score: 5/5
