Oldboy follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor's motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free.. An everyday man has only three and a half days and limited resources to discover why he was imprisoned in a nondescript room for 20 years without any explanation.. Oldboy Wiki
Overall it’s a good movie, worth the money . Cool !
I don’t leave reviews, actually this is my first one. I have skipped over this movie a hundred times. But, recently I stopped and read the description, simply because I am a fan of Josh Brolin’s work. I am really glad I did as this film was a Great Surprise! Throw in a world class mind f#@* and Samuel L Jackson and it’s a winner in my book!!!
An ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH MOVIE!!!!! 👊🤔😳😂
If comparing the two I understand you may want to give it a three star rating because you like the original better. I give them both a 5. Yes I also like the original better. If I were to rate all my 5 star ratings among themselves this might get a three star rating. It seems people are rating it strictly against the other. This is definitely not a three star show.
I have now Watched both- was so sure the Korean version would be even more phenomenal- but, alas, not the case. Plot holes or translation issues. Both beautiful movies nonetheless. Wow.
Spike should have never touched Park Chan-wook’s masterpiece with a 10 foot stick. Bad move Mr. Lee.
While this is a decent movie if you have nothing better to do on a lazy weekend afternoon this is in no way better that the Korean version. Also for Mr. Brody of The New Yorker……to say that this movie is “a remake of and an improvement on the original” means to me sir that you are 1. an idiot 2.Never seen the original. That can be the ONLY two reason for someone to claim that this is an improvement.
Spike Lee delivers an incredible reimagining of the wildly successful Korean film "Old Boy (2003). In my humble opinion "Old Boy (2013)" is simply fantastic. There are elements of the film "Old Boy (2013)" that I like even more than the original "Old Boy (2003)." I would think that anyone who is a fan of the original film, would have a great time watching this incredible remake. If you are a fan of Spike Lee films, you may also want to check out Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth. Mike Tyson tells you in his own words what happens beyond the boxing ring in this Live Theatrical Performance caught on film. Mike Tyson's Undisputed Truth is a true cinematic treasure. Thank you Spike Lee for directing these two amazing films.
Spike Lee is crazy. Your father has been missing for 20 years, the lady reads the letters and doesn’t have a clue or am I missing something here.
