Tom Selznick (Elijah Wood) is the most talented pianist of his generation, but has stopped performing in public because of his stage fright. Years after a catastrophic performance, he reappears in public for a long-awaited concert in Chicago. In a packed theater, in front of an expectant audience, Tom finds a message written on the score: “Play one wrong note and you die.” In the sights of an anonymous sniper (John Cusack), Tom must get through the most difficult performance of his life and look for help without being detected.

Don’t believe the hate. This is great filmmaking.Most of the people below my review don’t seem to comprehend the concept of a 9.99 pre-theatrical rental. Theirs posts are reflective of that, as this film is a well crafted thriller. It’s concisely executed, tightly directed and features a great deal of suspense, solid performances and lovely camera-work. It’s got dabs of everything from De Palma to Argento to Hitchcock and it honors their work well. It has good intentions but it never deliversI rented it because of I saw that Damien Chazelle (director of Whiplash) was one of the writers for this movie; nonetheless the acting, direction, and dialogue did not meet the expectations. Thus, not only the plot was non believable, but also no character in the movie created any empathy whatsoever, making the movie as a whole non-engaging. Su futuro y el de su mujer quedará a partir de este momento en sus manos. Tom debe de averiguar porque este agresor anónimo quiere matarle, necesita conseguir ayuda rápida sin que nadie se de cuenta, pero lo más difícil de todo es que tiene que hacerlo mientras continua tocando.

Není to tak docela horor: vše je inscenováno tak, aby divákovi příběh spíše zabrnkal na nervy, než aby ho skutečně vyděsil. Autor scénáře Damien Chazelle, jehož Whiplash získal na letošním festivalu Sundance nejvyšší ocenění, se osvěžujícím způsobem vyhýbá krvavým scénám.
