James McAvoy plays Detective Sergeant Bruce Robertson, a scheming, manipulative, misanthropic man who spends his time indulging in drugs, alcohol, sexually abusive relationships, and "the games" – cruel plots and systematic bullying of his coworkers and friends. While working on the murder case of a Japanese student, he starts coming unhinged, slowly losing his grip on reality and suffering from a series of increasingly severe hallucinations as he desperately tries to hold his life together.

I’m embarrassed for the actors who signed up for this.I thought James McAvoy was worth watching in any movie. I was wrong. This is a bunch of cheap, roach-infested images strung together over a flimsy, trite plot, if you can call it that. Not even the best parts are good, they are just slightly better than awful. Stunning, fav. indie film!As a student of the cinematic arts, I have fallen in love with this film. It's incredibly twisted, enthralling, and truthful. The story is wonderfully encapsulating, I was never bored. The characters are very well written. Anyone who says it's just drugs and sex either didn't watch the end of the film or is extremely shallow; this is the story of and overly confident, powerful and nonetheless pathetic addict. I liked it, then I absolutely hated it. good god.This movie commits the sin of pulling the typical Syd and nancy and chasing amy routine. The first part of the film is genuinely funny, interesting and well made. As it progresses however, you start to feel really sick to your stomach. I guess I can say this movie is well made, and the acting is pretty good. However, I was just so p**sed off by the end of it. I have known a few people just like McCavoy’s character, and it’s just too hard to sit through that kind of emotional trauma. No thank you. This is why I never watch indie/art films. Chaotic ConfusionIt's hard to tell whether or not this film is actually worthy of praise. All the right ingredients are there for a fine film, although my only problem is that with all the dark humor, violence and sex it's hard to pinpoint the reasonings for the character actions. The movie seemed to rush through the details of the plot just so it could give the nasty bits a little more time. Overall though it was entertaining and worth a watch..UnderSlimeScore: 3/5
