The fact that iron burns fairies is an old myth but this movie made it really important and modernized it. To me it was an incredible rewrite that told a theme of redemption for Maleficent and honestly, she became a better person in the end. Wizbang Trainer - Maleficent - Evilly MagnificentThis film is a twist on the story of sleeping beauty that attempts to give backstory to how the princess came to be sleeping and what could make someone so angry to do it. Of course you will here from the "realists" who can't let go that this is not a reality film any more than Harry Potter or Death Becomes Her were reality. Thinking from the point of view of a fantasy there are a number of elements that aren't "Cutting Edge CGI" which I accept that the film was made with the tech availability at the time, but it was not distracting and was done sparingly and consistent with the plot. If you really watch and not judge the characters you find that Maleficent had a nature that was different but not good or evil. That is until someone took away a treasure of her own. I will say nothing more but if you keep that in the back of your thoughts while watching you may understand her POV and how the plot finally plays out.

Sadly this movie completely rewrites Sleeping Beauty, on no level is it the same anymore, and anyone that says otherwise has a terrible memory. I will not say this movie was awful, it was pretty corny, but still not bad, however, anyone coming into this movie thinking they'll see Sleeping Beauty, just from another point of view will be greatly displeased. Main points are completely gone, some even started to be added, but somehow the director forgot about it in the midst of throwing together this jumbled work, and the overall consistency is gone, I was going to re-watch the cartoon to see what had changed, but it becomes so apparent to somehow who hasn't seen the cartoon in 15 years that there's just no point. Case in point, if you want to see an alternate view of Sleep Beauty DO NOT watch this, however if you'd like to see a brand new movie with a few similar points, then you may highly enjoy this.

James T Snell - Excellent Disney FilmI’d lost my love for Disney, after droves of films about fluffy princesses and princes. Maleficent is excellent at breaking out of this. It’s a love story and not dark quite like you might think. It shows what feels like a much more reasonable world, people change, everyone can do mean things but there isn’t necessarily such a thing as fundamentally bad people. I’ve grown to kind of hate a lot of things Disney. And yet, I really love this movie. Jolie’s awesome in it too. As a 30yr old dude without kids, this was the kind of Disney movie I needed to see in order to respect modern Disney. They did it. Great work.

pineweasels - Okay...ACTING: (8/10) I felt that Jolie was quite good in her role. No one was bad, with at worst being mediocre. But I think the only reason any of the actors may have struggled was the
STORY: [2/10]There should have been more development and backstory for the King. I feel like there was so much potential to create a deep and interesting character, but instead the finished product was this 2-D character who's development just confused the audience.
My main issue with the story was that when I watched it, I was reminded of Wicked. It was quite similar to Wicked, but Wicked managed to entertain and actually gave more reason as to why the title character was, well, wicked, while Maleficent struggled and tried too hard to make Maleficent good. That only maintained the black and white universe it [the movie] was trying so hard to destroy. Whereas other anti-hero stories have managed to create a grey zone in stead of good vs evil.
SET AND LOOK: (10/10) The special effects are amazing.

The acting is good, the story is meh, and the effects are stellar.

Gardening rocks - Interesting twist on an old classicI never saw "Wicked" so I don't know how original it actually was, but I do think that it was an interesting view. Angelina Jolie was great, the music was good and it was visually beautiful but I do think that they missed out on things that could have made it better (the prince and king especially). Overall, it was a good movie and worth renting/buying.

MBAware - An Old Story With A Different Twist Indeed...I often wonder… how many different ways the X men (minions) in Hollywood can twist it ? No one can ever say the X are not creative, as it takes quite a bit of creativity to keep up such repetition of the same under-lying storylines without being completely dull. That's a lot of clever work… keeping the conscious mind 100% occupied, while manipulating the subconscious mind by crossing people’s emotional and psychological wires. Making people FEEL good about what is actually bad… and FEEL bad about what is good. The movie was perfectly emotional… with revealing symbolism brimming over in every aspect of the film. Kudos, it was entertaining. Although personally, I think the story would have been so much more interesting if he had removed her horns, rather than her wings. Cheers ! GGG ;-)
