THE ROVER, David Michôd's highly anticipated follow-up to ANIMAL KINGDOM, is set in a world 10 years following the collapse of society. The rule of the law has disintegrated and life is cheap. The film follows hardened loner Eric (Pearce) as he travels the desolate towns and roads of the outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car, they leave behind a wounded Rey (Pattinson) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him. Michôd also wrote the film based on a story he conceived with Joel Edgerton.
A former counterrevolutionary pirate befriends a mentally ill young woman and this in turn leads to tragedy when she falls in love with a French naval officer.

Surprisingly great movie!I watched this movie not knowing what to expect. I was really surprised how good it was. Guy Pearce is a man on a mission to retrieve his stolen car and Robert Pattinson is Ray, whom his brother leaves for dead in the road after a crime. Ray completely steals this movie. The ending makes complete sense too. Highly recommended movie..Score: 5/5
EhI agree that Pearce has presence, but if I look at the movie as a whole just doesn’t work for me. The movie has great mood, and I felt the movie did convey the appropriate amount of despair for the context of the story. But what’s the point of the story? Is it just to convey that despair? If so, kudos for hitting one out of the park. But, that’s not enough for me. Cinematography, music, mood, all are A-rated. Not sure how I feel about Pattison’s character, but Pearce was good. But the story itself is an “F” for me. Wish I could be kinder, but just did not work for me..Score: 2/5
Skip itLet me preface by saying I’m very open to artful films with less action etc. etc. However this just did not land for me. Saw it in theaters while visiting Australia and all of us in our party were ready to leave half way through. Very disappointing. Though I’d probably do exactly what he did if in the same situation and that’s why I’m giving it two stars..Score: 2/5
Loved it!!!!This movie shows the true darkness that creeps in the human species and can be unleashed at any given point or time.....If you want or care about something enough you will do anything, even kill without a second thought. A truly God Awful movie about nothingSomehow managing to bloat 5 pages of dull, not very well-written dialogue into a full-length movie, Guy Pearce never looks like he’s aware that the cameras are even rolling. There are a lot of pointless gun battles and dead people. There are a lot of (failed) attempts at copying the “wise old ethic-lite person” from Tarantino movies and Robert Patinson doing… an accent of some sort. It’s slow-moving, boring, filled with nothing but irritating and unlikable characters and while it seems like it’s going somewhere and has a story, by the ending it’s clear it was about nothing and just as a “final scene that’s just as pointless as the rest of the movie” before the credits rolled. The only people who could claim to like this dreck are pretentious people who think liking “foreign” films make them cool. This movie is just horrible..Score: 1/5
Rob Pattinson is incredible in The Rover!Rob was really great as Rey. He was so good that as audience I wanted to help while watching the movie if you know what I mean. He’s acting was brilliant. Amazing movie though intense but very well acted. Love the driving scenario while Eric is driving with Rey. Yes it was definitely worth. It was an interesting movie to watch. Know your friendsEngrossing tale of mystery and friendship and the importance of knowing who your friends are. It's a story well photographed and told with skill. During the last third of the film I kept thinking of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, not so much in the details, but the relentless consequence of choosing the wrong people to be with.
