When their father passes away, four grown siblings (Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Corey Stoll), bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother (Jane Fonda) and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide-- driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.
Welcome Home. Get Uncomfortable.. When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.. OMG... just a feel good movie about love & family. There were definitely some twists & turns, but I enjoyed the journey getting to know each family member as each secret was uncovered. The actors were all excellent for the rolls they played. I’ll be recommending this movie to others:)
It seems this movie got some negative reviews. I found it funny and actually pretty interesting. Was it the best movie? No. But it killed some time and I am glad I watched it. As someone who must find meaning in almost everything I do, I did find meaning in this movie. If this makes you decide to watch it I laughed and I cried. Although crying for me is fairly easy.
I cannot fathom the idea that any person (other than those severely lacking in senses of humor) could not fall madly in love with this movie. An unparalleled definition of a true “dramedy.” The humor and poignancy were weaved together exquisitely. The cast is absolutely, outrageously talented. I genuinely cannot fathom how one could possibly dislike this film.
A lot of heart, screw ups, and quirks. Basically put, the right amount of everything with great attention to casting which brought a very relatable quality to the characters.
A must watch over and over again!
For whatever reason, while I watched this movie, all I could think of is my family gatherings at Thanksgiving. Just all the craziness and personality conflicts with the sub current of family love. Couple that with a recent death in the family and it fits like a glove. Very very very much worth a rental. As for a purchase, I’ll wait until the price comes down. Then I’ll buy it for sure.
So many movies out there are too perfect. with "This is Where I Leave You" it shows how life really is. Great movie for any occasion.
I fast forwarded through the whole thing. Completely bored
This is were i stop you the best title for this film because people would just stop the movie in a split second
Had watched this movie in theaters ages ago, but really, its a fantastic movie. If your looking for a heart warming, family bonding, comedy, THIS IS THE RIGHT MOVIE! If you are feeling like laughing, but also seeing some great bonding, this movie is great for you. If your looking for a serious, slow movie, LEAVE! Great cast, I wish I could give this a 5,000 star rating!
A really good movie that you'll want to watch a few times in row👍
This movie has a good storyline with good characters. I love that it has the right amount of comedy mixed with the right amount of drama. It's a very good film and I would recommend it to anybody.
One of those movies that just leaves you laughing, crying and just feeling happy.
Would recommend this movie to anyone
The movie has a great cast which helps move the movie along. Entertaining and easy to watch. Funny at moments, real in others. This movie has a lot going for it.
It's almost four stars. It is difficult to have an ensemble cast with a lot of shared screen time, and to get it right that all actors get to act and develop their role (rather than just support the big names). They all pulled it off, more or less. Well done in the meshing of messy family dynamics. Each of the four principle characters (the children of Ms. Fonda’s character) and Ms. Fonda’s matriarchy was, to me, just the right touch. Quite entertaining and well worth a rent.
This movie is laugh out loud funny and affecting. It's not avant-garde film or a movie that covers some of society's major ills, it doesn't touch on the the extremes of grief that humanity can suffer from, it's not some deep film noir that's going to leave you feeling gloomy for days. In fact it might do the opposite. It's just an enjoyable story of a relatable family with good delivery covering a range characters. Taken at that, it's very well done. Enjoy it!
Really enjoyable movie. You won't be disappointed.
Not as funny as hoping, but ok.
I read the previous reviews on here and didn’t think much of them to begin with but thought why not, I might actually like it. I love Jason Bateman as an actor so thought what could be wrong with one of his films. Turns out this was not only a hands down performance from Bateman but the rest of the cast. It’s a wonderful, heartfelt storyline and it leads you to wonder about life and show that every family has it’s downfalls, struggles and doubts about the world. But family - no matter how screwed up, is always there for you when the going gets tough. Highly recommend!
Watched this in flight, such a great movie, witty, funny and great drama too, exploring family relationships and personal relationships. I laughed I cried. Highly recommended
I really enjoyed this movie, it was funny, sad, real and honest! I think most people can relate to it some way
