Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, EX MACHINA. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined.

Caleb, a coder at the world's largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world's first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl.

Shallow and so predictableThe subject of this movie had a great potential. Unfortunately it turned out to be a shallow, predictable, and poorly made work of art. The story leaves to be desired as soon as it becomes clear that there is nothing interesting in it. The acting is reduced to the minimum and really does not engage the viewer. The picture is amateurish. Don't waste your time watching it, it is not worth it..Norman+Score: 2/5

Decent movie with a bad endingI thought this movie was good until the ending, which mostly ruined it for me. I just dont see how a superior AI robot would make some of the decisions she did at the end, especially because it seems like it would ultimately lead to her demise since she had no human escort to help her out (e.g. what power source would she use while away from the lab?). And why would the helicopter pilot just fly away with her? You mean to tell me the AI creating prodigy didn't have protocols in place to prevent rougue robots from flying outta his lab? Too many weak points to the ending that undermine the stronger earlier parts of the movie..Bestia-peludaScore: 1/5

Pure Brilliance!This is thought-provoking Sci-fi in the truest sense of that phrase.. wow! Every performance here is stellar. Watch this right before you binge-watch Westworld :)(SPOILERS) Although Caleb's boss is a grossly Alpha Bro who's first encounter with him is a demonstration of physical violence and prowess (so blunt, it's not even really foreshadowing), Caleb never seems to feel that *he* is in danger from Nathan. Everything about Nathan says "Hi, I'm a creepy, violent predator with a super high IQ!" But it's not Caleb who's at risk (from more than some imprisonment and a dumb bell handle). Nathan literally has the bodies of his female victims in closets in his bedroom. He has a stated plan to build more. There's a suggestion that not just one (Ava), but all of these builds are based on aggregated data from porn searches. Some importnat things to not miss here (and it seems like lots of reviewers are) are that 1) Ava survives imminent death (by reprogramming), 2) escapes and 3) the men who improsoned her don't.
