Český Rowan se vrací z vězení do svého rodného městečka na Aljašce. Je to překvapení i pro jeho staršího bratra Becketta, který je policistou. Jejich setkání po sedmi letech je typické, Rowan se porve s pasákem a jeho bratr musí zasáhnout. Poté se Beckett dozvídá, že v lese se objevil nebezpečný grizzly, vydá se hledat svou hluchoněmou manželku, která v lese loví do pastí zvěř, kterou pak očkuje a vybavuje čipy. Druhý den, když je Rowan na cestě do Medvědího bludiště, nachází policie jednoho roztrhaného zloděje dřeva a dalšího muže pohřešuje. Na místě neštěstí se objevuje i starý lovec Douglass. Kdysi ho napadl medvěd a on přežil jen náhodou. Varuje bratry, že tento grizzly je zákeřný, velice chytrý a že bude zabíjet znovu.
