Born on the doomed planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped at the same time as her cousin, Superman, but didn’t arrive on Earth until years later after being lost. Raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin. Years later, at age 24, living in National City and working as an assistant for Catco Worldwide Media mogul Cat Grant, Kara has spent so many years trying to fit in that she forgot to ever stand out. All that changes when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. With the help of Daily Planet photographer James Olsen, her bioengineer sister Alex, and the research of the super-secret, off-the-grid Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), who are tasked with keeping the Earth safe from aliens, Kara takes to the skies to protect her world.
Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

It's so stressfulAmazing show lots of potential...but...Making SO many people fall in love with Kara is cringeworthy! Winn and Kara are a great couple yet you make them constantly fight and make the macho bald guy and a bunch of nobodies get closer? If the main characters don't get along much less get together I usually stop watching the show cuz of lack of chemistry..Score: 3/5
About time we had a female superhero showSeriously, don’t listen to the hateful comments. This show has some much more depth to it than you originally believe. At first you get the goofy, happy-go-lucky Kara Danvers who stumbles her way through her first few superhero moments, then you really start to see the depth to her character; there’s a deep underlying anger and sadness that begins to seep through the cracks as Kara matures as a superhero. The female relationships on this show are amazing. The bond between Alex and Kara is so genuine and profound, it’s really the heart of the show. I’m loving this portrayal of Cat Grant, who I never really enjoyed in the comics. Cat plays the sorta Miranda Priestly character to Kara’s Andy. But there’s some real potential between their mentor and mentee relationship. I could go on, but seriously just watch the show. Watch Kara grow from the stumbling rookie to a confident superhero over the episodes, and you’ll be just as charmed as I was. For those who rate down because there’s not enough grittiness or broody angst so they can’t take the show seriously, go rewatch Batman or something and quit whining that you’re not the show’s target audience. I’ve recommended this show to my friends and family and I have received nothing but positive feedback. This show has a lot of potential and deserves another season..Score: 5/5

Worth Watching The Entire SeasonLike most pilot episodes, it starts off a little rough around the edges. But once the staff settles in and begins to find their own version of who these characters should be, each episode gets better. I've never got into reading comic books, so I cannot compare this series to the DC Comic book versions. What I can say, is that I find the TV series of Supergirl a great show for younger kids because of all the teachable moments throughout each episode. The special effects are pretty close to movie version worthy (I went and saw Batman v. Superman, and honestly, the special effects in that movie are the same in the Supergirl TV series). And maybe, special effects aren't worth mentioning since the technology has become so much more advanced that it is compatable from theatre to television, but I find it pretty impressive. All in all, I find Supergirl to be wholesome television show that the whole family can sit down and watch..Score: 5/5

Builds up to become superThe first few episodes, the show wobbles and tries to find its footing, which parallels Kara's journey to become Supergirl. For me, "Red Faced" demonstrated how powerful this character is. She is so much more than a female Superman. She remembers her life on Krypton, and under her optimistic and cheerful demeanor lies someone who misses her previous world - her home, her family, her friends. This show is able to show both sides of Kara, which prevents her from becoming the cliché "angsty" hero, and demonstrates to the viewer how incredible she is, not only for her her heroics, but also for how she is able to gracefully live her life as Kara Danvers (and as Supergirl) while balancing her underlying loneliness. Melissa Benoist exceeds all expectations when portraying these various sides of Kara. Additionally, Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant is more than the boss in "The Devil Wears Prada," and becomes a mentor to Kara and her alter-ego Supergirl; Cat Grant's one-liner quips are often scene-stealers, and they often cause me to burst into laughter. I'm glad the show is moving to the CW - they will hopefully give this show the super treatment it deserves..Score: 5/5
