I Like WhitneyI think Whitney is using reality TV in a positive way. I like her a lot. I was overweight for many years and know what its like to struggle with having difficulty with weight and it truly is hard for certain people to stay fit because of metabolism stuff and she is a really positive person. She's great!.Score: 5/5
The fall is going to get herIâve been watching this show from the first season because I remember watching Whitneyâs viral âFat Girl Dancingâ video. TLC recruited her for a ârealityâ show that was supposed to be about an overweight woman dealing with her health problems and living an abundant life in spite of that. For the first two seasons, I managed to convince myself that was what I was watching. This season left me disillusioned. Itâs not that the show has changed, or that Whitney has changed. Itâs that Iâve finally seen Whitney for who she is, and she was there showing herself all along. I just refused to see it because I wanted to believe that I was watching someone on a genuine journey to improving herself, her health and spreading a positive message about body image and a healthy, active lifestyle. I understand that these shows are edited to tell a story the producers want you to see. I get that, but there are some things that are disturbing, edited or not. Whitney is fatter than ever, and PCOS isnât causing all of that. Her last weigh in on camera was 381 pounds. On the 2-part wrap-up episode, the host said Whitney was 370, but there is no way of knowing if that was accurate. At that size, itâs difficult to tell a difference, and frankly, she looked bigger than she did on the last regular episode. Whitney is going to die an undignified, premature death, and TLC is hoping to have the cameras rolling when it happens. The denial is thicker than peanut butter and anyone who dares to cut through it is a hateful hating fatphobic hater. Itâs not that I think people should harass her on Twitter. But considering the spectacle that is Whitney, who wouldnât be terrified to gain the weight that sheâs gained? She treats her friends like servants and her family like dirt, especially her father. Her father brings her house supplies, healthy food and lunch kits, and she sneers at him. The others get marching orders. Rub my feet, put on my shoes, get me out of the shower, do this dance competition, and itâs always with a subtle âor else.â Theyâre all afraid of her. I donât know why, because even her even her elderly parents could outrun her. Iâm not sure if sheâs aware of how ridiculous she looks, or how far gone she is. The amount of water that was displaced when she got in the hot tub, riding a scooter in a parade with her own DANCE class, being taken to the ER for heart strain, loading a plate big enough for a turkey with food for one meal, she had obviously done a TON of pigging out in her car, the cupcake âtastingâ was anything but that, and thatâs just some of the weight related problems. Should I even mention how sad the ski incident was? There is something wrong with someone who has to muscle her way in on her parentsâ 70th birthday dance to drain away attention for herself. She got up with a back injury and danced in a competition with her students, making sure she was in the front row, then later tried to tell her personal trainer she was in too much pain to work out. Then she gave some terrible and really quite stupid answers to questions about health concerns some students had when she was giving a talk about her No Body Shame campaign. Thereâs more, but I think you get the idea. As for Kerryn Feehan, the comedian who was hired to be on the show, she was over the top a couple of times, no doubt about that, but she was the only one besides the doctor who was telling the truth. Whitneyâs fans are just as abusive as her haters are, and the garbage they keep spewing at Kerryn online is just as nasty as anything Whitney gets, if not nastier. Whitneyâs fans would be more productive if they organized to petition Whitney to check herself in to a diet rehab center instead of continuing to post vitriol like the antagonists they claim to hate. As for the show, Iâm in it for the schadenfraude at this pointâand for the motivation to never let myself deteriorate like that. Whitney is symbolic of a lot of what is wrong with this country. She does whatever she wants, then cries when everything doesnât go her wayâa LOT, and weâre all watching it. Everyone loves to see the rich fat kid fall down, skin his knee and drop his ice cream on the ground. I wonder when Whitney will realize that TLC is holding out their leg to trip her..Score: 3/5
