I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who since I was old enough to watch TV and catch the then current 80’s and 90’s episodes that ran on PBS and then the older ones when they were re-run. Every iteration of the Doctor has its ups and downs and that’s almost entirely due to the writer. Every single Steven Moffat episode has been horrible. Stuck with this romance that takes up all of the plot and action and makes the Doctor look like an stumbling drunk in love with his new female companion that he is so totally in love with; each one right? Steven Moffat would have the Doctor helpless without his sonic screwdriver or just helpless in general save for Clara and he ruined the Master. Thank all that is good and decent that his was his last run and that’s reason enough to rejoice. Sad we lost Peter Capaldi but at least he went out on a good note with the return of the true cybermen - not the robots we usually see.
As a very long time Doctor Who fan, I found this season very disappointing. The acting was good and, though there were a few episodes that had me hoping the writers were finally getting over their slump, for the most part the episodes were completely predictable. The last half of the season had me wondering when and how they were going to "jump the shark" and I think that finally happened near the end of the "World Enough and Time" episode. I found it kind of sad to hear Moffat gushing in that episode's Inside Look about how "brilliant" that particular plot twist was. I can only hope that the next season is better.
I never that I'd say this, but this season might be the reason I stop watching Dr Who until they can put the excitement, fun and enjoyment back into the series. I have been an avid fan since Tom Baker in the 70's. This has been a underwhelming season. When Clara finally left the show after overstaying her visit by 2 years I thought maybe Peter Capaldi might get the chance to shine. No such luck. The new companion, Bill, is also a diappointing character. I don't know if this is her first acting gig or not, but I do hope she is not here next season. Hopefully, next year there with be a new and more envigorating Dr. Who and a companion who is at least in the class of a Sarah Jane, Amy & Rory, Rose or Martha. Please not another Donna or Bill.
If you like your morally strident political messages delivered with all the subtlety of a jackhammer to the face, then this is the season for you. It makes clear what must be a deliberate tightening of the shows’ target audience toward people like the current “most helpful” reviewer. If you don’t get a thrill from putting down the politically out of step and want to laugh at a mad sifi show then, well, The Doctor is still here and the actor who plays him is a good actor, even the new companion is played by a good actor and brings a different kind of quirky fun to the show. The writers so far haven’t found out how to capitalize on Capaldi’s strengths but for the most part he holds it together. The show still has a few good moments if you can stick with it and ignore the eye-rolling ones. I like this show, but this series was barely worth my time.
Series 10 of Doctor Who has been a really strong series so far. While not every episode has been amazing, you can always count on this series to be adventurous, funny, exciting, and tense. My only criticism is that some episodes could use some more action.
After seeing ten episodes of this exhilarating series, it's safe to say that Peter Capaldi will be going out with a bang. I have absolutely loved every one of the ten episodes so far, which is not something that happens often with Doctor Who. Top notch story telling and of course, Bill, the new companion is brilliant. Wouldn't give it any other rating.
Very poor writing. The new companion acts as though she's seen every episode of the show but trying to pretend she hasn't.
I still enjoy this show, as I have for 5 decades (yes, I'm that old). Pearl Mackie is a great new companion and I hope she stays on after Capaldi "regenerates." But what's up with ITunes? Can no one there number episodes sequentially? Or is there some "curse" when using even numbers?
It is the writing that is horrible. I cannot wait for the Long Dark Reign of Steven Moffat to come to an end.
I love the series so far it's amazing. Refreshing to have a new companion and you can tell the doctor is having fun again. I can't wait for more episodes but I'm sad this season is almost over. Looking forward to the Christmas special it's sad see peter go though. My favorite doctor so far.
I've watched every season. I love them all! This season was the slowest to start and I feel a lot of unresolved bits. Also it's way to politically correct at times and obviously so. I've never known Dr. Who to be this way. It's always been kind, yes. Always thoughtful, yes, but it's never pandered to an ideology. If they have all the working parts-The Time Lords-then they are men in every way. The good bits and the bad. To have them regenerate into women is interesting but I'm not sure with what I've seen here it will be done right. Missy is what Time Lords turn into when they regenerate into women. Have you ever known and asssertive woman who isn't a B? That can be good and bad and some would say the Doctor is one. Lets hold hands and sing Kumbaya does't make for good storytelling. I'm not interested in seeing Molly Weasley as Dr. Who. With a lot of thought it can be done but not when you're afraid to say anything for fear of being called a misogynist. Nardole, I grew to love this character! It's worth it for the final few episodes but over all I was disappointed.
What an ending! This was a good season. I really enjoyed every episode. Bill and Nardole were a refreshing change and Capaldi was outstanding as always. I LOVED the last two episodes. I'm going to miss Peter as The Doctor!!
Can't wait for this years Christmas. 🇨🇦🎄🇬🇧
This specific episode is just about perfect, but (Spoiler Alert) when The Doctor has the flashback, he doesn't remember Clara, so she shouldn't be in the sequence
My favourite episode so far of the season. A happy ending and a little spooky. Great to have an LGBT character so well expressed as an individual. Like how this episode goes a little way to establish Bill's life as having a true independence. When I first saw the old house I thought this was going to be a reappearance of the Sarah Jane Adventures cast. Was reminded of the movie Burnt Offerings starring Oliver Reed. Alain Laverdiere Calgary Canada🇨🇦🏳️🌈
I love Dr. Who and I think that Peter Capaldi is the best one ever. Unfortunately this series is completely ruined by the choice of Pearl Mackie to play the role of Bill. She is a horrible actress, and mumbles so much that half the time I miss what she said, and have to rewind. She's just plain bad in the role. And you can feel at once that there is no chemistry between them at all.
Great season. Can't wait to see what's to come. Peter is certainly going out with a bang can't wait.
I really liked The Pilot. The writing this season looks like its going to be amazing. Nardol is a bit annoying though but he has his good moments.
Amazing season it will be Peter's last the pilot is a massive step for the who universe and is something that shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt a lot of the Episodes are reboots of the Russell T era but none the less something that is spectacularly epic and will leave you wanting more from Peter and some old faces will show up again why are you reading this go and buy it and watch some Doctor Who.
