Instinct stars Alan Cumming as a former CIA operative who is lured back to his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer. Dr. Dylan Reinhart is a gifted author and university professor living a quiet life teaching psychopathic behavior to packed classes of adoring students. But when tenacious top NYPD detective Lizzie Needham appeals to him to help her catch a serial murderer who is using Dylan's first book as a tutorial, Dylan is compelled by the case and comes out of retirement. Helping them is Julian Cousins, Dylan's invaluable CIA comrade who rivals Dylan in brilliance and wit, and can get top-secret dirt on anyone, anywhere, anytime. Lizzie's boss, Lt. Jasmine Gooden, is glad to see her best detective finally agree to work with someone on a case, since Lizzie has refused any partner since a tragic event one year ago. But as Dylan feels reenergized tapping into his old skill set, his husband, Andy, is concerned that Dylan's breaking their pact about putting away his cloak and dagger for good. Though Dylan and Lizzie initially clash, when it comes to catching killers, they realize they will make an ideal team if they both trust their instincts. Based on the James Patterson novel.

Poor Elementary cloneI guess they are looking for a replacement but for me this isnāt it. I have only watched the first 3 episodes and knew who did it as soon as they appeared on screen (were you supposed to)? I am not watching any more. Elementary with touches of Sherlock, not original at all. Very disappointing! Oh, and Alan Cumming as a tough guy taking out bad guys.... lol.Score: 1/5
Not perfect, but the characters are greatOverall, I have enjoyed Season 1 of Instinct. I really enjoy Dylan's character, but I also enjoy his interactions with Lizzie and Andy. I find myself laughing out loud at some of the well-timed antics of these three characters (e.g., when Andy drinks Dylan's tequila). The timing in some episodes can be improved, and I admit that the actual mystery in some episodes feels tired or is otherwise unintersting to me. However, I keep wanting to watch more due to the characters and their interactions. It's not as good as Elementary, but overall, I like it..Score: 4/5
Nearly unwatchableThere were once three separate CSI shows and three separate L&0 shows on tv. Were literally none of those writers available? The writing on this show is bad. BAD. It's wholly cliche, overwrought, and sounds absolutely nothing like human dialogue. Compounded with the fact that the actress playing the lead detective is utterly, unforgivably atrocious at delivering a line, let alone basic emotion, this is probably a show you can skip..Score: 2/5
