"Stronger together." That's what Marisol (guest star Valerie Cruz) tells her daughters, firebrand social justice warrior Melanie "Mel" Vera (Melonie Diaz), and her sister, fun-loving Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), about their family. Mel is a graduate student in the women's studies department her mother heads at Hilltowne University; Maggie is a freshman considering sorority rush (to Mel's amused dismay) and going "on" again with her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Brian (guest star Charlie Gillespie). But then, a shocking tragedy shatters their world and threatens their sibling bond: Marisol dies in a horrifying accident. Or was it? Three months later, we find Mel unable to accept the official explanation of their mother's death, while Maggie accuses her of being morbidly obsessed. And then, another huge shock shows up at their front door: they have an older sister – brilliant geneticist Macy (Madeleine Mantock), whom their mother kept a secret all these years! Macy is new in town and doesn't know a soul (except for Galvin (Ser'Darius Blain), the cute fellow scientist who's been showing her around). Macy is eager to connect with Mel and Maggie, but Mel can't handle another shock, and shuts her out. With the emotions of all three sisters running high, each of the girls suddenly exhibit impossible new abilities: Mel can freeze time, Maggie starts hearing others' thoughts and Macy has telekinetic powers. But don't worry, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation...or so says Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans) – who as far as they know is the officious new chair of the women's studies department - when he gathers the three sisters together to reveal they're actually powerful witches, as was their mother. And he's not really a professor, he's their "Whitelighter," a witch's advisor and guide! Not only that, but Mel was right: their mother's death was no accident – she was murdered by unknown dark forces. It's a lot to take in, but ultimately the sisters accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones...and their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us...one of whom killed their mother. With the Power of Three, they are stronger together...even if they have no idea what they're really up against.
The discovery that they are descendants of a long line of witches finds three sisters battling demons and warlocks - and occasionally each other. When the beautiful Halliwell sisters inherit a house from their grandmother and discover a secret "Book Of Shadows," they learn that they each have a unique power. The strong-willed Prue can move objects, reserved Piper is able to freeze time, and the uninhibited Phoebe sees the future. Individually, each is strong, but it is only by putting aside their differences and banding together as the "Power of Three" that they will be able to protect the innocent and vanquish evil.

Meh... Original was way better..While the writers attempted to stay true to the basic storyline of the original series, this just comes up short.... the white lighter is more like Buffy’s advisor then he is Leo. Replacing premonition with reading minds by touch is plain dumb.. the other sisters have identical powers to the original (roughly). The writing in general is pretty sloppy.. one would think at least for a pilot they would show some kind of effort. The liberal agenda is in full swing here not missing a beat, even taking a jab at the current President. Can’t we just have television without a political agenda? I watch to escape that stuff. This could have been a really good reboot, but the writers simply destroyed it..Score: 2/5

I enjoyed every minute of thisFor anyone who has watched the original and decided to right a negative review on this reboot. Your wrong, this is a brilliant revival. Give it a chance, watch it with a fresh perspective and stop comparing the two. It’s not an identical story line so please respect it as such. Stop being negative or rude in the comment section. If it’s not your cup of tea go get some water and sit in the corner. I hope to see this series grow into something better, defined, and “original” over time. Keep up the amazing work.Score: 5/5

Didn’t expect to like it, but I do!I am a huge fan of the original... and expected to hate this. Currently on episode 10-ish. The acting has gotten way better since the pilot... they just needed time to find their groove. I actually like it.. a lot! The sisters become more and more connected with each episode and they are slowly filling in the backstory of the girls and their mother’s death. I’ll always love the original, but find this to have its own Charm as well. Glad they renewed for season 2!.Score: 5/5
Better than the original...though the acting could be better!People are going to hate me for saying it but it’s true! I’ll always love the original, but this has better concept better special effects and over all better everything. Well the acting has gotten better, but that’s ok. Horrifyingly Bad - Avoid At All Cost!Charmed SJW may be one of the top 10 worst TV shows ever made (and that says a lot!). The acting is beyond horrible. Watchers cannot emotionally connect with the characters. It is a tragic parady of the awesome original that seems concocted in a Women Studies class by micro-cephalic crackheads. The special effects appear to be taken from the Harry Potter movies and the Game of Thrones TV series. The script is cringe-worthy. Stay Away! Awful! Horrifyingly Bad!
