GenericTo preface this, I haven’t watched the full series. I could only get through the first couple episodes. If you are a Halo fan this is not for you. In the first episode John takes his helmet off and it pretty much stays off for good. This sounds ridiculous I know. As a Halo fan, John rarely takes his helmet off. It allows players to imagine as if they were him, but there’s another aspect that Halo 4 kinda played with a little bit. John never taking his helmet off is symbolic of who he is. War is all he’s ever known, and he’s borderline robotic about it. The first Halo game even described him as a cyborg (technically he was altered through scientific means in the books). This would’ve been amazing to build on. First showing is how robotic and desensitized he is to War, but then showing his humanity. Growing him as a character while showing his past and what he endured, and telling a compelling story that makes the viewer want to continue to watch. This is none of that. It’s so generic and such a letdown. You can tell the writers care more about making a show that appeals to everyone while removing anything that would make it unique and make the viewer want to stick around. Please don’t watch this. It’s okay for a halo fanHuge fan of Halo, whether it’s been the previous movies, games, or books, there’s a lot of great story in Halo across the board. With that said, I think the TV series is okay. I can understand the direction they’re going to appeal to a larger audience who may or may not know of Halo, but because they’re so far off the actual stories the character development and character choices start to become questionable to me and somewhat unbelievable and out of character. They could’ve just stuck with some of the origin stories in the books (like Lord of the Rings) and it would’ve probably ended better than rewriting some of the history and events to something brand new. I would rebuy the series again as I’m a fan, and maybe season 2; maybe not 3 if the series continues down this road. Why rewrite the story if an amazing backstory already exists behind the games?.Score: 3/5

Missing an episodeThe season is good as you’d expect. A little less action than I thought but overall it’s good. Unfortunately there seems to be an episode missing between episodes 4 and 5. The CGI is a little… off at times, especially with Cortana who is very cartoonish. I get it may be to please the fans of the games but it doesn't fit in the series aesthetic well. I have to say its worth a watch but the series is out of order on Itunes with episode 8 placed as episode 5.
