Deadwood, Season 3 Release Date and Synopsis

The lawless era in Deadwood is coming to an end. As the town's first elections approach, strategic alliances that protect hard-earned interests become more critical than ever. Facing down an unexpected threat from one powerful man aiming to reshape the town in his image, the founders must put up their strongest fronts if they expect to thrive — and survive. A new chapter begins in Season 3 of the award-winning HBO drama series that focuses on the evolution of an American frontier town, and the ruthless power struggle between its inhabitants. The settlers introduced in Seasons 1 and 2 — including now-sheriff Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and saloon owner Al Swearengen (Golden Globe® Award-winner Ian McShane) — continue to share a restlessness of spirit, heightened by the influx of ambitious new residents, in particular George Hearst, a tycoon with a lust for gold . . . and absolute power.

Historical accuracy not at stake, nor entertainment value. This series is powerfull, to say the least. By the time you reach season 3, you feel attached to even the the most grimacing characters. It's rough, gritty, and it hits home in honesty with it's general atmosphere, as one can only imagine it was like back during the 1860-70's gold rush. The dialogue is artfully drawn and can be appreciated on it's own with no scenic leverage of the screen required. It's fluid and intelligent, peppered with swearing and fouler references. Such dialogue I consider to be somewhat metaphorical for the series, story, and characters themselves: Fluid, Intelligent, and reasonably flavored with seasonings of it's unfashionable years. I did pretty extensive research on the history of these characters, and Deadwood itself. And save for minor details, alot of this story holds true to the actual history. I recommend it not just for it's dramatic entertainment purposes (which were expertly executed.) One of the best shows everAs others have said, watching this show will give you a new perspective on what it is to be a human, a man or a woman, and an American. In my opinion, one of the most profound and fundamentally American works of art in the history not just of television but of our nation. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect television show is that circumstances conspired to deny it a proper ending. Deadwood made many lists of the top shows of the 2000โ€“2009 decade, and I doubt anybody who's seen it will disagree. As a warning, it is extremely crude and violent. The treatment of women is cringeworthy and abhorrent, though I found a lot to relate to and admire in the women of the show. Like the men, they are surviving and trying to improve their stations by every means available to them. Deadwood is raw human potential, beauty and darkness together. It contains a few scenes of shocking violence that I tend to wish I hadn't seen, but they are never gratuitous. But a civilized town is not necessarily a peaceful town, and the power struggles that determine the fate of Deadwood have never been more brutal. A ruthless newcomer, businessman George Hearst, threatens to reshape the town in his own image, forcing Deadwood's settlers โ€“ including the steadfast lawman Seth Bullock and the cutthroat saloon owner Al Swearengen โ€“ to form strategic alliances if they expect to thrive, and survive. While bloody conflicts change the face and fate of the town, the citizens of Deadwood come to the harsh realization... some fortunes are better left unclaimed.
