Excellent Show - iTunes encoding, not so much.Love X-Files ? YES! iTunes digital encoding? well... ok for watching on an iPod, but if you want to see good old X-Files upscaled to HDTV, you are better off buying the X-Files - Ultimate Collection DVD Set and playing it back on a modern 1080p HDTV upscaling DVD player. The Ultimate Collection includes 61 DVDs in one big box: all of the episodes, all of the extras from the DVD single season sets, and also the first movie: Fight the Future. You will see higher quality video, and that is necessary for such a dark, shadowy TV show. If you just want to watch X-Files on your iPhone, iPod or computer monitor, by all means order up every season directly off of iTunes. iTunes needs to upload and sell the spin-off TV show 'The Lone Gunman' too. The heroic stories of Melvin Frohike, John Fitzgerald Byers and Richard Langly are out there! True fans should order the X Files Ultimate Collection DVD set. GREAT but price change?I could have SWORN that the price for each season was $14.99 a week ago! Maybe I've gone crazy, or maybe they just upped the price for the holiday season...I guess I should have just bought it when I saw it at that price. One of the very best examples of Sci Fi drama, ever.I have been waiting for this to hit iTunes for at least four years, and it's finally here. This is one of the very finest examples of science fiction drama, in many ways yet to be bettered. Shows like Fringe and even Lost owe a lot to the X-Files. I would go so far as to say that even movies like the Matrix, were influenced by this show. Watch carefully and you'll see why. It follows the now classic format of a large story arch moving through the seasons, but with many episodes that can truly stand alone (probably perfected by Babylon Five, showing around the same time). Season one is a great start, and this series really does mature with age. Later seasons and episodes vary from near horror genre, to comedic and almost self parody, but it never really descends into farce. Finally, a lot of people reviewed this mentioning that Beyond the Sea is missing. It is there, but perhaps the TV-PG rating of that episode means it cannot be downloaded if there is an age restriction on the iTunes account. Maybe people could email Apple rather than give an entire season one star because of a misunderstanding..Score: 5/5

Why is this extremly expensive??This was season was reduced down to £16.99 a few weeks ago, why has it gone back up to £33, breaks my heart to see such an amazing series being sold at rocket fuel prices, "Come on guys!" put this season back to realistic price, customers like myself will take you more seirously..Score: 1/5
Great HD upgrade... with qualificationsIt's wonderful to see the old show back and looking so great. The X-Files was only intended for SD resolution broadcast, so although it was shot on 1990s film stock and has been rescanned at HD from the negatives, I can't believe it would look ***that*** much better on Blu-ray than it does here on iTunes. At the time of writing, it's costing about £25 a season which is not insubstantial, but is really only the price of an average night out with friends in a local London pub. The only caveat is that they've 'cheaped out' on certain aspects of the restoration. While most of the shots are from new HD scans, stock footage (ie shots of locations sourced from outside the production) has not been replaced and they've simply 'uprezzed' the tape footage. Worse, rather than recompositing some of the special effects shots, for example when Mulder gets confronted with an alien-tech aircraft in episode 2, they've again taken the uprez route, meaning we get a 16:9 zoomed version of a SD 4:3 tape image, with an abrupt drop in quality. Obviously there were budget limitations on the HD restoration, but it makes the job seem a bit half-hearted and not quite the definitive version this could have been. Also note the peculiar rainbow pixelation on the screaming man's nose in the opening titles. But the main thing is the stories and they're still great. For a show to have classics such as Squeeze and Conduit so early on is impressive, even if the first season very much sees the show finding its feet (for me, it's not until the second season's 'Duane Barry' episode that everything I love about the show fully falls into place.) Still this is a great (and obvious) place to start rewatching the series before the new episodes arrive in January. I want to believe the truth is out there!!.Score: 5/5
Great show bad priceNoticed this came out on the US itunes a few weeks ago and hoped it would make the trans to the uk store and finaly its here! Though its steep on price itunes, you can get these dvds so much cheeper in shops and cheaper still at your local car boot sale thats how old this show is! For once it would be nice to get a good deal but im sure people will pay..Score: 3/5

Get a grip on marketing, Apple UK!I renew my fellow reviewers concerns, being able to watch the x-files on the ipod does not justify the steep price, it's full of open source DVD rip and file converters out there, and you can buy your series in DVD and convert it to ipod with little effort and still act completely legally. Apple UK must do a little market research I think! Very poorly competitive prices, until now....Score: 5/5

What have you guys been smoking?I paid about £60 for the boxset (all 9 seasons plus the movie). so what makes you think i'll pay £25 per season on iTunes? man, you guys SO need to be put in touch with reality. but i guess you wouldn't know a good price if it came up and hit you in the face. I've said it before and i'll say it again: you guys are too greedy for your own good. how many more times do reviewers have to complain about the prices before you get it? make your prices competitive, and you'll sell one hell of a lot more. if the price was right, i'd give 5 stars. instead, i'll give it only one star, for one reason and one reason only: the price.
