The TARDIS arrives on the unnamed planet of the Gonds, who are ruled and taught in a form of self-perpetuating slavery by the alien Krotons - crystalline beings whose ship, the Dynatrope, crash-landed there thousands of years ago after being damaged in a space battle. The Krotons are at present in suspended animation, in a crystalline slurry form, awaiting a time when they can be reconstituted by absorption of mental energy. Periodically, the two most brilliant Gond students are received into the Dynatrope, apparently to become “companions of the Krotons” but in truth to have their mental energy drained, after which they are killed. When the Doctor and Zoe take the students' test, their mental power is sufficient to reanimate the Krotons. The Doctor discovers that their life system is based on tellurium and, with help from the Gond scientist Beta, he is then able to destroy them and their ship using an impure form of sulfuric acid.

More Classic Doctor WhoIt is great to see the classic episodes on iTunes. Keep them coming. I agree that the price is fair. Considering that a 90+ minute movie is $9.99 and the BBC DVD's are around $20.00 you are getting almost 2 hours for less than $8.00.Score: 4/5
No it isn'tTo everyone squawking about the price being too high, no it isn't. $1.99 per episode is the standard price for any tv episode I've seen for download, either here on iTunes or on Amazon Unbox (although BBC episodes are much higher on Amazon). Like all classic Who, The Krotons is NOT one episode. It is a standard four-episode serial (and the majority of classic Who fans HATE the episodes edited into movie format). And as somebody who at one time paid an average of $20 to $30 per story on VHS in the 90s for every single existing story, I can only wish I'd had them available at such a good price back then. So quit complaining. It is a good price, and these are excellent stories. More Patrick Troughton, please!.Score: 5/5
Very well written, directed and actedI was a skeptical how this old Doctor Who would be. I have to say I was a completely won over. The old fashioned effects were used very well and actually look a lot less shaky and dated than some of the props, sets and effects from the 1980s Doctor Who!! This story is convincing, well directed and builds suspense nicely throughout. The Krotons spaceship (the Dynatrope) is eerie indeed - especially when it tracks the Doctor and sends a device to kill him - it looked like something from the War of the Worlds. I have to say this is a real gem and I hope iTunes will add more 2nd Doctor stories..Score: 5/5

Classic TVThis episode is not available on DVD. While the FX are 'classic who' (cheap) and the acting overdone the story is surprisingly contemporary. Image quality is fair, probably about all that can be done given the age of the material.. A fun introduction to Patrick Througton's Doctor. The price is high relative to much content on iTunes. A 20min back catalog episode for $2, compare with a 45 mins recent show for the same price. The organziation of the several Classic Doctor Who episode files is poor. I have 2 stories on my Apple TV they appear as: Episode 1 -- first story part 1 Episode 1 -- 2nd story part 1 Episode 2 -- First story part 2 Episode 2 -- 2nd story part 2 etc. I had to manually rename them in iTunes and resync the apple tv. Not cool..Score: 4/5
Thank you so much !Thanks for remembering those of us classic "Who-vians" ! Patrick Troughton was always my favourite of the original doctors, and I hope you will make more episodes available. I will certainly purchase them if you do !.Score: 5/5
Way to go iTunes..PAT TROUGHTON!!!!Pat Troughton is a superior actor to Tom Baker. Face it. Pat played a cosmic hobo as the Second Doctor, and sadly just 6 episodes remain in existence. So appreciate what there is of this wonderful actor. Pat is probably well known to many for being in Jason and the Argonauts, The Omen, and 1984's Box of Delights. I haven't seen this episode in so long, I will purchase it today so I can enjoy the Troughton era once again. Zoe and Jamie are probably one of the best companions of the 60s, and work extremely well with the 2nd Doctor. Hopefully i-tunes will bring in more Pat Troughton stuff and definitely William Hartnell- The First Doctor-- who helped made this show what it was and is..Score: 5/5

A not available on DVD classicPatrick Troughton as the Doctor is always enjoyable, and Jamie and Zoe are some of the best companions ever. I'm really happy to see Classic Doctor Who on iTunes now, and even happier that some eps not yet on DVD are here. I do have to take issue with it being rated TV-14 though. That seems a bit much, this is a children's show after all. Y7 would be more appropriate I believe, as this show has been watched by children for generations now..Score: 4/5

Kreepy Krotons! This is a great Patrick Troughton story... The Tardis lands in the wastelands on an unknown planet. Who are the mysterious Krotons? Why do the Gonds send their most intelligent people to live with them as companions? The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe discover a terrible secret, but can they persuade the Gonds to throw off their shakles of slavery? And can the Doctor prevent the total destruction of the Gonds? This is a great story, with plenty of action. Yes it's in black and white, but it is definitely worth the price, and is a must for all Doctor Who fans, both young and old.
