LoudThe way Spike Lee puts this together is loud; it is not in your face or over-dramatic, but it makes you listen. I always knew that the hurricane had hurt New Orleans, but I never realized how much the government had hurt New Orleans. This is the most moving documentary I have ever seen. It's definitely worth it..Score: 5/5

Passionate, heart-wrenching, and hard to swallow. Here's a documentary the way they were meant to be made: with the director's mind already made up, but enough information for you to make up your own. hard to imagine, however, that any american could sit through this and not boil with fury at the administration "we" put into power. this documentary goes far beyond pointing fingers, and often enough firmly turns the viewers' collective eyes away from the bureaucracy (which is easy to get lost in) and towards the actual pain these people endured. blame them for not getting out, call them stupid or poor or whatever the hell you want, but no one short of a sociopath could watch this film and not be brought to the raw emotion behind one of the lowest of lows this country has ever seen..Score: 5/5

A Real Documentary! This is what documentaries are about. Getting to the heart of an issue and showing the people- not faking it! Spike Lee did an amazing job on this documentary and informing the masses. This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen, if not the best!.Score: 5/5

Must SeeWhen I saw this on HBO is could not turn a way. Spike can tell a story. He can really tell an important story of failure. The stories of the people and the images has stayed with me. When people put too much faith in government officials watch out. Petty politics between the Mayor of New Orleans and the Gov. of Louisiana; the lame actions by "Brownie" and President George Bush will make you really think...how could this happen? This is an unfortunate lesson that the world must learn from and never duplicate..Score: 5/5

Wonderfully madeBack when Katrina hit it was very hard to know what was going on with all of the finger pointing and such, but this series really breaks it down and tells you the story from beginning to end. Very well done!.Score: 4/5

"Great Job Brownie!"This movie help shed light as to what the citizens of New Orleans actually went through. This movie shows the extent of how the government failed the people of that region. CHANGE will happen!.Score: 5/5

From the National Guard stand pointI dont even have to watch this to know exactly what it is. The same thing that most "Katrina Victims" say. It was everyone else's fault. The fact of the matter is that if the people of N.O. LA acted like intelligent human beings hardly anyone would have died. Yes, Nagim(Chocolate City Ray) and Governor Blanco (can't say what she is on here) are wrong for some of it but if a storm the size of the Gulf of Mexico is bearing down on you would it not be a good idea to leave. That is all you need to know. Now don't waste your money on "a Spike Lee joint"..Score: 1/5

As a Native NEW ORLEANIANSpike Lee did a great job with the interviews which were very moving, but was too ploiticized. Why cant spike lee just leave politics out of his films? if you non- locals want to know who is most to blame, BLAME our former Gov. Kathleen Blanco and "Willy" Ray Nagin who disregarded Washingtons offer to pre-landfall help of National Guard Troops with food and water. funny how the media was quick to jump straight to the feds.Granted Blanco and Nagin didnt know that the city would flood for sure, but where they made the mistake was to prepare for the worst. another failure was using the superdome as a shelter. For years it had been used for a shelter in the city whenever a hurricane was threatening the area, but if you flood the city you have 90,000 people stranded in the middle of downtown. The bottom line is as much as i wanna blame all higer ups, it is a risk you take when you live in a city 8 ft below sea level..Score: 2/5

Excellent titleKudos to spike lee for making this documentary, and two thumbs up for titling it "when the levees broke". it may not be common knowledge, but contrary to what the Army Corps of Engineers reported (who were responsible for building the levees to sub par standards), katrina did not flood new orleans. many people think katrina caused this damage to new orleans which is not true, or at least not true in the sense that is sometimes reported. the hurricane- a strong cat 5 in the gulf but only a cat 3 at landfall, and only a weak cat 2 at Ponchartrain- did not flood new orleans. the faulty construction of the levees surrounding the city (they were supposed to have been built to easily handle a cat 3 storm) completely fell apart in areas, which allowed Ponchartrain and the storm surge from the canals to flood into the city. This is an important documentary in the sense that you really get a feel for the people and families whose lives were destroyed by shoddy government workmanship on the levee systems. For further study, read the book "the storm" by ivor van heerden for a terrific inside account of one LSU scientist. the book is an excellent companion to this documentary. then DO SOMETHING- join levees.org to call for an investigation into the 8/29 levee breaches in new orleans. 3 years later in new orleans, very little has been done outside of the downtown area. st. bernard, chalmette, the upper & lower 9th wards... all are still decimated with very little rebuilding happening. this documentary, while important, should only be your beginning point. new orleans is still very much a city in danger. things are still- 3 years later- not "fine" in new orleans. new orleans is a crown jewel of america- a true melting pot of cultures, people, music and food. we cannot as americans sit idly by and allow this city to die. Please- watch the documentary, read the book, and do whatever you can to stop this one of a kind city from dying..Score: 5/5
