J.J. Abrams, the creator of Lost and Alias, teams up with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Mission: Impossible 3, Transformers) to create this highly anticipated drama series. Featuring Australian newcomer Anna Torv, Josh Jackson, John Noble and Lance Reddick, the first electrifying season of Fringe follows an unlikely trio who uncover a deadly mystery that may be part of a larger and more disturbing pattern that lives somewhere between science fiction and reality. As the season begins, FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham (Torv) is called in to investigate a mysterious outbreak that nearly kills her partner. The only person with any answers is an institutionalized scientist, Dr. Walter Bishop (Noble) who can only be released under the care of his estranged son (Jackson). Together, the three discover that the answer to this mystery is only a small piece of a much larger, more shocking truth. Find the patterns . . . right here, on iTunes! Fringe, Season 1 Wiki

Interesting premise, but with a laughable plot and B-movie production style. It's like a modern-day version of the X Files for people with really low IQ.
The good: The premise of this show is awesome. The Bad: The sequencing of the writing is lazy, thus the characters are forced to do increasingly stupid things just to move the plot from A to B. This is the problem with J.J. Abrams stuff. It is unintelligent and it does not care that it is unintelligent because it is convinced that you are. Does anyone else even notice this stuff or do I live on a planet of nitwits? I do love Anna Torv though. Most beautiful girl in the world. I loved how smart she was at the start of the series. Then the lazy writing dumbed her down and made the show unwatchable for me.
I’m a huge fan of sci-fi, conspiracy theories, the aliens, mystery, thriller, action and the supernatural/the unknown, in general. And to be quite honest, I was reluctant to get Fringe as I’ve neither watched it on T.V., seen trailers or anything. I was fortunate enough to just take a leap of faith and buy the first season. Since that day, I got hooked to an amazing world full of wonderful scientific/pseudo-scientific phenomena/theories coming to life not to mention the brilliant characters who vary from serious, beautiful, to mysterious, to funny, sexy, fierce, evil and cunning. Each episode presents a new mystery that our heroes will explore and solve, while the main story will evolve as you progress through the season. I advise you not to think about getting it, don’t waste time thinking. Just get all 5 seasons and watch them one after the other. It will be a journey of a lifetime.
Ordinarily I wouldn't watch a show like this. But one night I couldn't sleep so upon receiving many recommendations I watched the first few episodes. Then I became completely hooked. Now I'm almost finished with season 2 and the show just keeps getting better. I find that I'm staying up really late just so I can watch as many episodes as possible. The acting is very good (which is unlike many sci-Fi genre shows). The premise is fantastic and is acctually rooted in real sciences (believe it or not). And J.J. Abrams pulls out a flawless (or almost flawless but I haven't found flaws) show (unlike Lost which was riddled with flaws and unanswered questions).
The amazing backstory of fellow CBI agent, Olivia Dunnen flows into the plot of Fringe, weaving into several episodes. The director of Fringe has really outdone itself making it captivating and draws you to following seasons. Review by Lidia Bodamer 12yrs
Disgusting, boring, and cliche. Worthless.
I was not sure about Fringe at first. Seemed very X-Filesy. Then they embraced the crazy and ran with it. It's pretty great.
We sci-fi junkies put up with a lot of crap from tv, going all the way back to Captain Video and continuing through Battlestar Galactica and Defiance. Sure, Fringe is X-Files: The Next Generation, with some Lost thrown in, and star Anna Torv is the poor man's Cate Blanchett. But still, the ideas, writing and production values are all good for tv sci-fi.
Best show ever it is so dramatic and scary you should watch it when it's very late and dark.
I love this show like an old friend. Seeing it again takes me back in time. An Ironic statement considering the subject matter. Do yourself a favor watch it in the dark with someone you love.
I have seen all season and it is the best show ever, but are you guys going to add closed captioning to season 1-3 or what?
I've been watching this series since day one and honestly, if there is one series that is worth to be seen, it is Fringe. Great cast, great filming and a thrilling storyline!
I love this show, the cast is so talented and pitch perfect, Anna Torv(olivia) and Joshua Jackson(peter) are amazing. But John Noble as Walter Bishop is the highlight of the show! Watch this show, the finale of S1 is mindblowing!
Excellent - very entertaining.
Oof, what a bust. Plot from the mind (and attention span) of a 12-yr-old; script without wit or wisdom; wooden characters; and bad acting. The only bright spot was Joshua Jackson (as Peter)...poor guy, he's a good actor caught in a weak cast. Ok, there was one other funny thing: how clearly 'Harvard' was actually the University of Toronto. "Everything tells me I've got to get out of Boston," says Peter, just as the camera pans past the CN Tower! :-o
This show has opened my mind made me wonder and made me think of what this would be like if it actually happened. So sit back relax and let your mind be amazed!
Ignore the scientific impossibility, turn your brain off & enjoy one of the best sci fi shows in years.
This series was listed in some "best of TV" article I read. I had never seen it on TV and if you're like me there are times between TV season when there is NOTHING on. So we buy these kind of shows to watch when there is nothing to watch. I bought the pilot first to see what it was like. The first 10 minutes or so are a little gruesome. I like the character development and the clues in one show are helpful in the next. We spent a Sunday watching the first half of the season.
wow, Fringe is a great show, one of the best on TV! I just started watching it, and throughout the entire episode I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens! I hope the soundtrack comes out soon, Michael Giacchino is a genius!
In case you’re looking for a great show to get into and don’t know - Fringe is excellent. The main story arc doesn’t really start in the first series which is more procedural but there a few non-red herrings that are followed up later. I have been watching it through for years, pretty much on annual loop and never get sick of it. If you have a tech background don’t be put off by the pseudo-science, it’s handled really well and often humorously. Added bonus - two of the main characters are played by Australian actors.
Great concepts, themes and plot ideas let down by average acting and minimal character arcs. Josh Jackson puts in the better performance Fault are exacerbated by that awful confusion caused by a main character sharing the same first name as the protagonist of a much more excellent television series.
Fringe is by far the most interesting tv show on earth and the best. 100% recommended to everyone. All seasons are great!
This show is absolutely amazing!! I have watched all of Seasons 1 and 2 and can't wait to watch season 3 and 4 It is an awesome Sci-fi show. Its the best!
Just discovered this series and can't get enough of it. Fabulous plot lines, how the writers consistently come up with these ideas beggars belief. Brilliant acting, particularly by John Noble. I am praying the network recognises a Golden Goose when they have one and keeps this series going for a few more seasons.
I'm not a huge fan of JJ Abrahms - while LOast was great for S1 & S2, it lost the 'plot' after that & Alias was ok - but Sydney Bristow is no Jack Bauer - but both shows suffer from the same fate - overused ideas, repetitive and increasingly unbelievable storylines -we can only suspend disbelief to a certain extent right? So it was with reservations that I downloaded the trailer to FRINGE & it was exactly as expected - slick, well made etc .. but ultimately generic. It's similar to the X-Files but not as goundbreaking - watch it to wile away a Sunday afternoon but don't expect too much.
This is currently my favorite show and luckily for me they are showing it on tv at the moment :D season 1 is over and 2 is almost finished, i also recommend buying star trek by j.j Abrams
It is just fantastic.I would suggest buying the whole series.
What a revelation this show has been. I initially saw one random episode on television when it first aired, and I wasnt very impressed. I dont know why but my opinion has changed dramatically since trying it again. This time from the first episode. Extremely well acted, well written and bordering on both sci-fi and reality, Im completely and utterly hooked. Buy it!!! Its terrific.
awesome TV series!
I watched this season hoping that it would have original ideas... No. It is an apic failure. Fans of the show, do not be offended I just prefer The X Files which came out 15 years before this. 15!! Which means that this pathetic excuse for a show is taking Chris Carter's ideas. Hey, if I am right then 11 years from now Olivia and Peter will get together then have a child. -.- If you feel like watching an awful remake of The X Files then this is for you, if you feel like watching a show that is original, fun, witty, and fast paced then I suggest that you watch The X Files. :3 Thank you if you have read my comment.
I have been watching this show since day one when it first aired and it hasn't ceased to disappoint me. I'm a big tv show fan and I watch so many shows. This is one of those shows that doesn't dissapoint period! If you don't watch this, it will be a big mistake if u choose some other show over this cuz it is just absolutely phenomenal. It has comedy, science, and a lot of action. I reccomend this to anyone who like science fiction. If u do get into the series, you will fall in love with Walter Bishop, this show would not be complete without him. Great Show, I hope this show evolves and gets better and better. Definately worth the week of waiting and the commercials in between!
Fringe is the new and better X-files. I was a huge fan of X-Files but since the ending of that series there has been nothing even close to the characters and story lines until now. The first season of Frnge takes a bit of understanding "the pattern" but once you catch on, the characters, writing and directing are exceptionally great. The second season begins even faster and better, delivering quality intellectual content, not some "cheesy" scifi. Each week moves faster than the week before revealing more piecies to the overall "pattern" yet still stand alone in plot. All of the episodes are unique and require intellectual analysis to figure out how all of the pieces are woven into a whole. The acting is superb on all counts. Each character has his/hers part to play and the chemistry between them adds to the excellence in writing. This show is something I look forward to each week! Fringe Science, shady characters and their backgrounds, government cover-up, consipiracy plots, are all parts of the whole. This is a delight for an old X-Files follower. If your looking for something fast paced, well written and causes you to wonder how far science will "push the envelope" then Fringe is a must see. You will not be disappointed.
as a young child i grew up on star trek, so i have always loved J. J. Abrams. as a teenager I was OBSESSED with the X-files and totalyy distraught when it was gone. this show has made me happy to be able to relive the best bits of both of those shows with the multiple references to star trek jokes and plot lines as well as the race against the clock/government conspiracy/illegal experiments that made me love the X-files so much. Not to mention that this show takes place mainly in my beloved old stoping ground of MA (mostly Boston and Harvard), I am constantly nostalgic by it. I am so glad I got hooked to this show and can not wait to see what is in store. Now if only they can bring William Shatner as their next special reappearing guest I can die happy. LOL
This J.J. Abrams best show yet, PERIOD. Lot's of action, science, and crime. Better than Lost and Alias. Peter is the best character.
The first few episodes are alright, but towards the middle it gets AMAZING. If you want to watch this show, I highly recommend you watch "Bound" first. It's very entertaining, and it gives you a recap of how the show started. My favorite episodes are Midnight (very freaky episode) Unleashed, Bound and There's More Of One Than Everything. The second season is great as well, but has a few more fillers. I suggest you watch this show. Great cast, great plot, (that we just barely know now), great humor, great score, great writing, great twists, everything is wonderful. BUY IT!
This show is like an "X-files" that actually delivers on what it promises, particularly with regard to the long-term story arc. In that respect it's great and worth your time. My only complaint is that sometimes it tries to convey very heavy emotions that come off a bit hollow. It's kind of like if "Weird Science" grew up, married the "X-Files" and they had a child together :O
This show has so much potential. It has a great cast. An unknown as the lead, Anna Torv is perfect, and I love, love, love Joshua Jackson, and John Noble is a scene stealer. Keep this show on for a long, I am hooked!
fringe always gets me thiking what's going to happen next
I love this show the best show in years!!!!!!!!
