In this hit spoof on the spy genre, Robert Vaughn and David McCallum star as a team of secret agents battling the global crime organization THRUSH. Under the aegis of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), the dapper, suave Napoleon Solo (Vaughn) and the equally dashing Illya Kuryakin (McCallum) jet to exotic locations, defending the world from evil, chaos and bad taste. Premiering in 1964, this successful series also starred Leo G. Carroll as Alexander Waverly and featured guest stars such as William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy (of Star Trek fame), Kurt Russell as a young stowaway marked for murder, Ricardo Montelban and longtime comedy favorite Ken Murray. From trying to save the world from fear gas to trying to save themselves from a pack of bloodthirsty cheetahs, this spoof brings the spy game to life with vigor and vibrancy. You may even forget it's in black and white!

1964 Was A Very Good Year...Not only did the Beatles show up and change music forever, but a nifty show called The Man From U.N.C.L.E. hit the airwaves and made history for its innovative, movie like effects, edgy soundtrack and drop dead gorgeous leading men. Before there was Star Trek and the cast of the Enterprise, before a twisty story ever made an appearance in Mission Impossible, there was the Strigas Affair. Shatner and Nemoy together for the first time in a tightly woven story of intrigue, deception and really good disguises, this episode set a standard for many that would come after in some of television's best loved shows. The American "James Bond"Did you know that Ian Fleming came up with the name Napoleon Solo? Did you also know that he gave up any and all rights he might have to The Man from U.N.C.L.E.? All true. If you really want to know what this show is about, see episode 25, "The Never Never Affair" with future agent 99, Barbara Feldon. It is exactly what the show is supposed to be about. One more thing, think about skipping all the other seasons. For some reason color destroyed the ability of the writers of this show to write good scripts. But if you HAVE to, buy just one episode from the season you are thinking about. You'll see why rather quickly. BUT the first season (all 30 episodes) are among the best scripted shows of any year (including up to 2008). Enjoy.Score: 5/5
James Bond meets Alice in WonderlandWhen I watched this show as a child, I never realized how truly doofus it was. Holy guano Batman, this thing is through the looking glass AND down the rabbit hole! You've gotta love āAlexander the Greaterā breaking each of the 10 commandments while executing his master plan to take over the world and dodging an ex-wife trying to collect on a divorce settlement (he posts a numbered plaque commemorating the site of each infraction). Not that I'm trying to get into the man's business or anything; but between me, you and the piano player, I doubt Alexander Waverly ever figured out his own hat size at any point in the entire caper... Got it on DVD, but am so happy to be able to download it off of iTunes, too!!!One of my favorite television series of ALL TIMES. A fun spy series, which combined the best thing possible, the wonderful imaginations of the creators and writers of the shows, and the public's need to believe that there was an organization out there fighting for the 'Greater Good' of ALL the world's population. (I have heard stories of people, who in the 1960's, went on the tour of the United Nation's building and asked to see the 'second basement' of the building). At a time when tensions between the U.S.A. and Russia were high, this show broke ground with having an American agent being partnered with a Russian agent. (Apparently, when the pilot episode was viewed, they were told to get rid of the 'chief'--a crude way of meaning the Russian character. Thankfully it was misinterpreted, and they kept Illya Kuryakin!!!) Also, if iTunes continues to list all the seasons of this show, viewers will be able to see a wide range of stars--many of whom are now gone, and others who were just beginning on their rise to stardom. Definitely worth watching!.Score: 5/5
Too much fun and charismatic charactersThis show was so much fun, mostly because of Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin. 50 years later, the show is still a blast - in other words, it still entertains. Blast from the past at a great price! This, the original first season, is, for me, the best of the four seasons currently available - and at a tad over £19 is an absolute bargain! Why are the other seasons so expensive?? Go for it and buy this one; even if you wasn't around to catch the series on TV back in the 60's you'll find it entertaining. I won't say too much on the program itself because anyone thinking of buying this will know the general premise of what it's all about. If you DO buy it however, be prepared for its download times.
