Living the Deva LokaI first watched this when I was 15 - I hated it. No obvious robots, monsters action, impenetrable dialogue. How wrong can you be? This is an amazing work. Probably the best Doctor Who story ever. It's about madness, and sanity, possession, Buddhism, Christianity - Everything. Quite possibly the most adult Doctor Who you will ever watch and no, by adult I don't mean nudity and swearing. That's a 15 year old's idea of "mature".Score: 5/5
Mara Madness! This is definitely my favourite Peter Davison story. The setting: the Eden-like paradise of Deva Loka. This story is enjoyable on many levels, and isn't your run of the mill Dr Who story. You have an Earth survey team in trouble, a mentally unstable security officer, friendly natives - but the real danger lies elsewhere in paradise. The cast is first class: including Nerys Hughes (the Liver Birds) as Dr Todd who makes a lively witty contrast for the Doctor, Richard Todd (veteran of many films) as Sanders the gruff Commanding Officer and Simon Rouse (the Bill) as the increasingly unstable Hindle. The regular cast (sans Nyssa who spends the entire story in Delta augmentated sleep safely tucked up in the Tardis), add to the story, and Janet Fielding puts in an excellent performance as Tegan fighting for her sanity! Unstable! Unstable!I remember watching this as a child, and being rather frightened by all the dream sequences. This is the first time I have seen it since its original broadcast. The rubber snake is an unconvincing mess, but the acting and characterisation is quite brilliant. Simon Rouse as Hindle is both understated, sensitively played and quite mad. Loving the gorgeous Nerys Hughes in this one. Adric, rubbish as usual, and Tegan...one of her best, despite being asleep for a lot of it. Highly enjoyable, and.Score: 5/5
