Be Warned! This series was awesome until Part 11 - when they slapped-together a crappy film on the 50's and 60's, using footage from all the previous parts in this series! What's the Deal, History channel?!!! You couldn't find enough history in those two amazind decades to fill up your hour?!!! They seriously fell short of the mark on this one, and are totally remiss in thier historiographical duties. Shame. Additionally, tolerating the fake-sensational special effects, the post-alternitive soundtrack set against scenes from the Civil and Revolutionary Wars, and the opinions of (albeit great actors, but) no-names in the historical/academic world, like Michael Douglas...I got through all this, but had had too much when I saw part 11!!! Commentary is HORRIBLEWhen I watch a documentary, I like to hear commentary and analysis from people who actually know what they're talking about, not some egotist like Trump or Giuliani. It's A Good SummaryIt is impossible to fit the accuracy of America's history into 12 hours, just as it's impossible to be completely unbiased. However, it does a nice job of hitting most of the crucial points in our history. I bought "Division" and "Civil War" to brush up on my facts before my final in history. It was a nice summary and did help quite a bit. Not Bad!!.Score: 4/5
Superb. One of the best series on the History Channel. I wish they showed this to me at school cause I seemed to learn more on this TV show than from the history books, from what I remembered at least. Plus it's very entertaining to watch as well, if you are a follower of the History Channel or just appreciate the subject of history in general, this show is a must have. Even if you have seen the full show on TV or just segments of it, it's great to have it without any commercial breaks & to be able to watch it whenever you please..Score: 5/5

Butter on BreadAfter going through such an experience from A. P. U. S. History and learning from such a fantastic teacher, this program is pretty much like butter on the bread. Although it is nicely put together, I'm not entirely content with it. There's so many topics that the program doesn't touch on, like pre-Revolution colonial culture, the effort to unify the colonies more post-Revolution, the first engagements of Americans into politics and political machines, the Northwest Ordinance and the other land ordinances before the Louisiana Purchase, the Indian Wars (especially Tecumseh's efforts), "Manifest Destiny", the breakdown of the two-party political system pre-Civil War, Ulysess's Grant's role in the Civil War, the era of big business and labor union strikes, the Gilded Age, America's stage of making protectorates out of outside territories, "Big Stick" Diplomacy and Dollar Diplomacy, Wilson and the League of Nations, the Communist scare of the early 20th century (not to be confused with McCarythyism at midcentury), FDR and the New Deal, the Korean War, "Ping-Pong" Diplomacy, the Persian Gulf War, etc. I know that's a big list of topics already, but that's all I could think off the top of my head at the moment, and the list just goes on of all the more topics that could've been mentioned. Overall, the program really focuses on the domestic, soft, and main events that occurred in American history. It doesn't go over the political events that happened or the U.S.'s outside role or take on foreign policy aside from WWII, Vietnam, and the Cold War. One of the annoying things while watching is how clips are repeated over and over again, which can get irritating after a while. Like I said before, the program is well-put-together and flows kind of nicely, but there's just no way you could tell the ENTIRE true story of us within 12 episodes. Each episode would have to be like 3 hours to capture the jist of the time period it's going over. And even still, to be able to tell the entire story could get too complex to tell in simple terms for this program. After watching, I only feel semi-satisfied..Score: 2/5

This one is for the history books. This had the potential to be a great series, but sadly, it falls short. The writing is trite and the producers seemed enamoured with computer graphics which are often repeated ad nauseam. And what is with the talking heads? - some of these people may be household names (Donald Trump, Al Sharpton, Martha Stewart for example), but what are their credentials as social historians?
