Meet Frank Gallagher (series star William H. Macy): proud, working-class patriarch to a motley brood of six smart, spirited and independent kids who, without him, would be... better off. In Frank's booze-addled view, parenting just eats into his hard-earned bar-crawling and carousing time around Chicago -- so he leaves it to eldest daughter Fiona (series star Emmy Rossum) to hold down the fort. Bearing the de facto parent badge/burden, she's donned the proverbial apron and makes sure her younger siblings do their chores, keep a clean(ish) home and feed the kitty -- the Gallagher family fund jar -- because the gas bill is due, and everyone (no matter how small) works to keep the house lights on, as well as food on the table. Brothers Lip (series star Jeremy Allen White), Ian (series star Cameron Monaghan) and Carl (series star Ethan Cutkosky) use their intellect to break every rule in the book to survive and make the bank, while younger sister Debbie (series star Emma Kenney) would sooner steal her share. Toddler Liam, the youngest, is just happy to be along for the ride. The Gallaghers are irreverent, endearing, resilient -- and they're absolutely, wildly and unapologetically Shameless.
Shameless is a fiercely engaging and fearlessly twisted series. Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

Crap compared to the UK versionOriginal story line has been reduced to the lowest common denominator. The UK version is brash, thoughtful and intelligent. In season 9 in the UK and it is still brilliant. Sad to see Bill Macy doing a rip off. Wake up America and do something original..Score: 2/5

Above and BeyondSeldom does a show consistently fail to disappoint. Writing is unpredictable, with superbly cast characters who are not only believable, but deliver their dialogue with precision & pacing that has become all but a lost art. There are not-so-subtle messages within messages, dealing with very real issues about family, integrity and loyalty, which holds a moral compass if not a mirror to modern life. At the same time it manages to navigate that fine line of making a statement while remaining non-judgemental. I can not recommend this show highly enough. Enjoy!!.Score: 5/5

Interesting !!This americain version is very interesting to watch, as it is not the glammed up version of the usa ,or a hood version of the streets 'man'. Its good because in the uk people can relate to some of the situations based in the uk version, so seeing state side it has me fixed with intrique. the humour is easy yo relate too aswell. Brilliant - only the first episode is the same.As with Queer as Folk, Showtime's Shameless starts with a carbon copy of the UK pilot episode, and the next two episodes are similar, as well as the characters being generally the same of course, BUT this series is not the same. At all. In the same way as QaF did, Shameless breaks away from its UK counterpart very quickly and makes the story lines completely completely their own. I have watched both UK and US versions and I find this one far superior, but that's just my opinion. All I can recommend is that you don't judge it based on the fact that the pilot is the same..Score: 5/5
