Falls Short of GreatIt’s good; certainly worth a careful watch. The characters? I preferred the acting role of Matthew rather than Woody. I found Woody’s role (and his wife) too typical and Matthew's some what interesting. The editing and recalling past events yet again the director and editor are trying to be convoluted and avant guarde when that wasn’t really necessary regarding the plot in such detail. I liked the way it captured the Bayou, and the actual representation of “police work” was accurate — it’s boring until the fighting starts. My criticisms are relatively minor — still a good watch..Score: 4/5
Top-quality and powerful - it’ll haunt youMuch like the bayou it is set around, the story meanders leisurely at first, stealthily picking up it’s pace until it hits the main stem and by then you’re in for the ride! True Detective, S1 has the kind of darkness that sneaks up on you at 2 a.m. when the night sky is blacker than black and you suddenly realize it’s just a little too quiet outside. Intensely disturbing subject matter is made bearable by being delivered with integrity and a solid moral reflection. The writing, direction, acting, and cinematography are all first-class in their own stratums and combine into a singularly compelling piece of cinematic mastery..Score: 5/5

Powerful Dark and PhilosophicalThis show is very well written and the delivery from the Matthew and Woody is impeccable. The philosophies imparted by Matthew are on the crazy edge of brilliant and balanced by the pragmatic self destruction of Woody’s character. The pace is perfect and somehow manages to meander and maintain tight suspense at the same time. Like a stroll through the woods were your nightmares are around the corner. This show is fresh, if you liked Breaking Bad’s character development you have to watch this..Score: 5/5
VileThis story takes place in the American swamp, both real and figuratively speaking, if that's your kind of thing, even the good guys are corrupt, despicable, foul, John Wayne wannabes with no moral compass, only revenge, and consequently violence, on their minds, the foe is, as usual in American films, a psychopath - it should be noted that rage is a sign of frustration and impotence, justice comes only from considered and dispassionate thought, that's why we have judges - Matthew McConaughey, however, turns in an iconic performance, right up there with Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter, or Heath Ledger's Joker, if you must.Score: 2/5

Possibly the best detective drama everTotally and utterly mesmerising. The entire series is such a complex map that has to be watched 2 to 3 to 4 times before you can really appreciate the brilliance of the script, the filming, the score and ultimately the acting. McConnaghy is quite simply outstanding and Woody plays second fiddle to NOONE as the straight laced jock like family man with the penchant for adultery! The interchangeable timelines work seamlessly making this a thinking mans/women’s series that won’t just keep you guessing it’ll make you beg for more episodes.
