The pressure to perform on such a high level has a way of taking a personal toll, sometimes putting team members from the Truck and the specially trained Rescue Squad at odds with each other. Despite any differences, this is an extended family, and when it's "go time," everyone inside Firehouse 51 knows no other way than to lay it all on the line for each other. When a tragedy claims one of their own, there's plenty of guilt and blame to go around. Lt. 6 semaines après l'accident qui a coûté la vie à l'ambulancière de la caserne 51, Leslie Shay, tout le monde cherche ses marques et fait face à la réalité avec plus ou moins de difficultés. Brett fait son arrivée à la caserne 51 en tant que nouvelle équipière de Dawson. Cette dernière, ayant beaucoup de mal à se remettre de la mort de Shay, décide d'aller voir le chef Orlovsky pour en parler. De son côté, Severide s'est installé à la campagne pendant un mois et demi, mais décide de revenir à la caserne. En retournant à son appartement, il se repasse la vidéo du contrat passé entre Shay et lui, ce qui le bouleverse en s'enfonce dans la déprime et le chagrin.
