Inconsistent and TactlessI've watched all the trek movies and TV series shows many times over the last 30 years and this just isn't Trek. I actually really tried to buy into it, but there were just too many inconsistencies and conflicts with existing canon. For those who say we should get over that and move on, I say then what's the point of calling it Trek? If they wanted to make something else, they should have called it something else. The point of having new Trek stories to watch is to continue the larger story in a way that fits and is consistent with the stories that have been told so far. This doesn't do that. Also, Trek has always been good about presenting current social issues in the context of good stories in ways that are thought provoking, but which are family friendly, unoffensive, and don't get in the way of the story. This show is none of that. Rather, many the episodes feel like the writers' had some foul language and controversial ideas they wanted to use and then to tried to figure out how to write a story to put them in. Crass, offensive, and no sense of tact whatsoever. Garbage..Score: 1/5

Ignore the haters! Commit to one season!I avoided watching this show as I’m a huge Star Trek fan and heard numerous bad reviews. As someone who’s seen every episode of every Star Trek series (probably at least three times) I didn’t want to ruin it with a bad modernized series. At first it was a little rough and the reimagining of the Klingons I think rubs a lot of purists the wrong way. That said...GIVE IT A CHANCE...As I highly doubt you’ll regret it. I’m now caught up to current episodes with the season finale of the 2nd season coming next week. I have to say this Star Trek series is absolutely phenomenal!! It would be sickening if this series were cancelled and I think a lot of Star Trek fans who end up watching it down the road would be highly upset if they allowed it to happen. (Like Firefly level disgusted!).Score: 5/5

Star Trek at it's bestI'm not going to bother with addressing the 1 star reviews. If you want Shatner and Nemoy then this isn't the show for you. This show leaves the pristine one dimentional old Star Trek back in the last millennium. Rich in plot twists and characters that are real and stories that are not always resolved with technical mumbo jumbo..Score: 5/5

New Trek Series in Infancy -- lots of potential...Very hard to judge a series by its first season... I see many elements that were "desired" by fans in a new Star Trek series, which were not present in "Enterprise" and were attribitued by critics to its "failure" -- many negative reviews stating, "not really Star Trek". That said, forget critics. Having legacy and framed expectations of what a series/reboot should or shouldn't be is a hinderance. As a fan for many years, and a fan of every series, each in its own unique way (also each hated on for "not really being Star Trek"), I have enjoyed Discovery and see potential. IMHO a series needs to run for several seasons.. character/plot dev., etc. before it can truly be judged. That said, as a long time fan who didn't grow up on the "Original" series, I'm open for this series to be DIFFERENT. I'm excited to watch and see how "Discovery" develops, plot & characters. And from what I've seen so far, I truly hope that it continues to be renewed long enough to meet its full potential and provide a fulfilling conclusion. I don't think its 5* right now, but I do look forward to each new episode as it's released, and pray it's given the chance to reach its potential..Score: 4/5
