A brilliant series built for the new generationAs someone who has grown up watching Star Trek since the day I was born, I love this series. It’s a refreshing take built on the foundations of what made the series special to begin with. It explores familial relations, friendships, and the moral dilemmas of war. I’m nearly 21 years old, and my family has watched an episode of Star Trek every Sunday night of a majority of my childhood. We were the family with the tribble ornaments and my dad preached logic to me like I was a young Vulcan myself. You couldn’t go a holiday without someone commenting on the Klingon dictionary on the coffee table. You could not meet a truer fan, and seeing Captain Janeway lead a Star ship was important to me as a young girl with big dreams. Representation matters and this series has more of that than any other. This is Star Trek for a new generation. It is riveting and fast paced without losing the contemplative element. The castings are brilliant. I love this show and am looking forward to watching all seasons again and again. The only trick is getting all of my friends to watch it..Score: 5/5

Seriously Skeptical But Loved it!Grew up a Trekkie. I bought the whole negative hype. Hated that Star Trek was behind a paywall. From the reviews, I knew they didn't seem to be following in the Original Trek Theme. Gay crew members, Social Justice Themes... NO NO NO. Not interested. But I own every Star Trek Movie and TV Episode (except Enterprise) So I decided to judge this for myself. And I was completely blown away. Nope, it sure doesn't follow the original theme, but it's 50 years later, it's okay to vear away a bit and try new things. It seems like the writers ping pong back and forth between ideas, but the characters are brilliant. The acting is great. The show is beautiful. And I wasn't at all offended by anything I was told I would be. Overall, I will definately place this in my library of things to rewatch every couple years. It's almost worth demoting it to 4 stars for the horrible theme song that sounds vaguely like the theme from the Fringe and ends with a pathetic nod to the original score, but I can skip past that..Score: 5/5

New Trek Series in Infancy -- lots of potential...Very hard to judge a series by its first season... I see many elements that were "desired" by fans in a new Star Trek series, which were not present in "Enterprise" and were attribitued by critics to its "failure" -- many negative reviews stating, "not really Star Trek". That said, forget critics. Having legacy and framed expectations of what a series/reboot should or shouldn't be is a hinderance. As a fan for many years, and a fan of every series, each in its own unique way (also each hated on for "not really being Star Trek"), I have enjoyed Discovery and see potential. IMHO a series needs to run for several seasons.. character/plot dev., etc. before it can truly be judged. That said, as a long time fan who didn't grow up on the "Original" series, I'm open for this series to be DIFFERENT. I'm excited to watch and see how "Discovery" develops, plot & characters. And from what I've seen so far, I truly hope that it continues to be renewed long enough to meet its full potential and provide a fulfilling conclusion. I don't think its 5* right now, but I do look forward to each new episode as it's released, and pray it's given the chance to reach its potential..Score: 4/5

Don't mind the hatersThis is a good show. Yes, it takes a little while before it finds its feet, but did you stop watching TNG because of Code of Honor or Angel One? Who doesn't remember that the show that gave us Move Along Home eventually gave us In the Pale Moonlight? Who doesn't remember the difficulty everyone had accepting Janeway's totally not-Trek-ideal crew that had *infighting*? The first half of this show is explained by the twist, and while I wish they'd done more with it, it's still well done. Haters gonna hate. Don't let them stop you from watching Discovery..Score: 5/5
It's nothing more than bad soap operaI don’t see how this show can be considered 'Star Trek' anything/. I started watching Star Trek as a teenager in the '60s and have watched all the series since then. I've watched season 1 and was disappointed. Even more so in season 2. It's a very bad soap opera that had promise through the first couple of episodes, but went down hill quickly. The writing is terrible. The main character is an over emotional tear factory that you end up hoping gets written out of the show. There are a lot of other good characters, but the writing and plot does not leverage them very well. My opinion - this is the worst of the entire Star Trek universe, including all of the movies as well as the cartoon TV shows..Score: 1/5
Star Trek Dis-respectThe good it has some good visuals and set design. The bad - pretty much every character with the worst being the lead angry black woman. Literally every episode is nothing but bickering and liberal garbage crammed under the guise of the name Star Trek. Each character shows a lack of integrity, respect, honor, and likeability. I watched Season 1 and started 2. It doesn’t get any better in S2. Just avoid unless you enjoy your characters smug and condescending. They really should rename the show Star Trek Dis-respect..Score: 1/5
