Chernobyl.Watched this on TV with my hubby. We were so riveted, that we binged watched the entire show, programme by programme, in one evening. We never usually do that! At the end of the show, I couldn’t put into words how I was felling. Trying to remember, and thinking back, I vaguely recall the Chernobyl disaster happening at the time. I remember not being overly concerned about my health, or any kind of impact it could have on me in its aftermath. I was a native born Brit - living in the UK and not much else bothered me at the time. Trying to survive as one of the many millions of people left unemployed at the time, was more stressful and worrying that something happening somewhere in Russia! Today. I am a (legal) U.S. Citizen living with my hubby in America and have been for many years This show shocked me more TODAY, (after all these years), I remember how everything was hushed up and minimised and downplayed in the media and on the news. The British Government were in damage control so the British public didn’t start to panic. We were told that nothing radioactive could ever travel to the U.K. And that the people in the U.K were not at risk! Looking back now, I’m not shocked by the attitudes of utter arrogance by some of the (characters) involved. I remember this level of disinformation and bloody lies being told to everyone in the U.K so it was not exclusively “a Russian attitude”. And It was, after all, the nasty 1980’s! The indifference by “Yuppies” and the discrimination in society who only focused on the money they were making and the attitudes of “Greed is Good”, encouraged the “what’s in it for me?” mindset. This was everywhere. Not just in USSR! For those who weren’t even born at the time, it’s not fair to give out half truths and misinformation of real facts. Even though the show is still breath taking in it’s portrayal of the events of what happen in Chernobyl (before, during and after), to encourage people start the debate of what actually happened, is much more important. If some of the facts have been embellished by a “license” to inflate or change the story line, it doesn’t change the fact this man made disaster really happened. Moreover, why it happened. On an up note, I had to purchase this show, as it’s one of those rare programmes that is a; must see, must buy, masterpiece. My hubby and me are impressed with the acting, the entire production of the show, and the director’s insight into why they filmed the show the way they did, what storylines were used, and how each storyline is as relevant to today, as it was then. The dialogue after each program gives more back ground information to the previous (programs) events in such a way, that I was left feeling this was the first time I had known fully of this frightening disaster that happened in Chernobyl. All these years later, and I now feel I have the right (and the permission) to talk openly about everything that happened. Without fear and/or without being silenced. Whether you agree with the storyline or not. It’s still a deeply moving, shocking and heartbreaking story to be told. Watching this show left me feeling like a “witness” to a tragedy that YES, could (and Should) have been avoided at ALL COSTS! The level of fear in the men who were working with the mindless pigheaded bastard, that ignored ALL warnings that led to this disaster happening, is a crime in itself. The overwhelming impact of the people who suffered, died and all the families left without their loved ones, and not much (if any) support (or adequate and appropriate after care), is the lasting impression that broke my heart the most. This is a must see show. See it. And never forget it! Learn from it. And make sure it never happen’s again! Thank You..Score: 5/5

April 26, 1986, USSR. An early-morning explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant sends workers scrambling to assess the damage. When reports reach the control room that the reactor's core is "gone," deputy chief engineer Anatoly Dyatlov sends men to the core itself to investigate. Meanwhile, Vasily, a fireman in the nearby town of Pripyat, is summoned to help put out the fire, leaving behind his wife Lyudmilla. As plant workers and firemen quickly succumb to radiation, Dyatlov and plant directors Viktor Bryukhanov and Nikolai Fomin meet with the Pripyat council and insist that radiation levels are not dangerously high; the council subsequently decides to seal off Pripyat and cut its phone lines to prevent the spread of "misinformation." As sick patients begin to stream into the local hospital, a skeptical academician, Valery Legasov, is tasked by the Central Committee of the USSR to serve as an expert on its Chernobyl task force.

Lyudmilla arrives at the Pripyat hospital looking for Vasily, whom she learns is being helicoptered to Moscow. At a Central Committee meeting with General Secretary Gorbachev, Legasov objects to Deputy Prime Minister Boris Shcherbina's assessment that the situation is contained, and Gorbachev ends up sending both men to Chernobyl, where a new reading shows radiation is thousands of times higher than reported. Legasov urges Shcherbina to evacuate Pripyat, but Shcherbina worries about Moscow's reaction. As reports of the disaster spread to Europe, Shcherbina finally calls for an evacuation, even as Khomyuk makes her way to Chernobyl to warn Legasov and Shcherbina that a second and far more massive explosion is imminent – one that puts the entire European continent at risk.

Determined to uncover the cause of the explosion, Khomyuk goes to the hospital to interview the men who were on the scene, drawing unwanted attention from the KGB. As miners dig a tunnel under the reactor to stave off a meltdown, Legasov lays out a decontamination plan for surrounding areas that will require drafting hundreds of thousands of men.

Khomyuk faces government-censor hurdles as she tries to obtain documents related to Soviet nuclear plants, and at the hospital, tries to persuade a critically ill Dyatlov to explain what happened the night of the explosion. When the radiation proves too dangerous for lunar rovers, Legasov and Shcherbina devise a plan to use men to remove debris with the least possible exposure.

The events inside the control room leading up to the explosion are witnessed, and as Legasov's testimony comes to a close, he puts his reputation, and perhaps his life, at risk in hopes of preventing another Chernobyl.
