A series of mysterious deaths plague the election trail of Sen. Robert Palmer (Guest star Tom Skerritt), as does a mysterious black dog with a pentagram for a dog tag. Kolchak:The Night Stalker, Season 1- The RipperIt was great to see an old favorite show again. No great special effects, just like I remembered. Might have to order the whole first season, and not just a couple episodes..Score: 5/5
Wonderful cult sci-fi/horror showThe great Darren Mcgavin headlines as the intrepid investigative reporter Carl Kolchak, a newshound who always winds up with more than he bargained for! Playing a reporter who winds up investigating paranormal and mysterious happenings in Chicago, much to the chagrin of his (usually) angry, but heart of gold boss Tony Vincenzo (Simon Oakland) The series was on network TV for only a year, but became a cult classic. Preceded by two very well done TV movies, Kolchak:The Night Stalker has some excellent episodes. My favorite 'Horror in the Heights' is a classic. All in all worth a look if you're a Twilight Zone/Night Gallery buff like myself!.Score: 4/5

Rowhouse4525This is the reason i bought an ipod, when i was a young boy i would sneak in my mom's bedroom every friday night and turn the tv to Kolchak and at some point i would jump out of fear and my mom would wake-up and say if you are scared why are you wathcing that show ?. it was tha good and for years i was terrified to go downtown it had that affect on me . Great Classic Sci-FiI use to stay up to watch these shows as a kid, and they are probably the one show that I remember most from that era. Darren McGavin is a fantastic actor, playing the determined Newspaper Reporter Karl Kolchak. The scenarios he plays in are unique and classic. The forrunner of the X-FilesChris Carter,the creator of the X-Files was a fan of the Night Stalker! The first episode was filmed in Seattle,Washington.A scene inside the elevator of the space Needle. My favorite: Horror in the heights! I wish if they redid the series that they would do it right...The 2006 "remake" was poor. Classic 70s seriesClassic series that was a precursor to such series as 'The X-Files.' Darren McGavin is excellent in the title role, as are the supporting cast --especially Simon Oakland as Kolchak's editor Tony Vincenzo. Totally unmissable.This 1974 ABC Series is monumental. It's origins lie in an unpublished novel The Kolchak Papers by Jeff Rice, becoming two TV Movies The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973). Richard Matheson, of I Am Legend fame wrote both TV movies. In the history of SciFi/Fantasy genre TV, there have been few true Classic series. In pure SciFi it has to be Quatermass for starting the whole thing off, Star Trek for all of its formulaic weaknesses, Dr Who for all its inconsistencies (and a few brave words for Blakes 7) and the Twilight Zone for capturing the effect of Pulp SciFi in the televisual format. In Fantasy there are the UK giants of The Avengers, a TV show that plundered multiple genres with irreverance but which lived in the fantasy world after Series 3, and The Prisoner (such a colossus that nothing else has tried to copy or emulate it - until now, an good luck with that) and from the USA Kolchak, the titanic forefather of the X Files, of Threshold and now of Fringe. Involving excellent acting form an under-rated master of TV, plots that would not look out of place in both Science Fiction novellas and EC or Amazing Comics but filmed with a real feel for the darkness rarely seen on prime time US television. OK so it was heavily monster of the week, but this was (is!!) Netwotk TV. Not to be missed..Score: 5/5
