One of the best gangster films ever madeFirst of all, this is not a Martin Scorsese film, like another person mentions in their review. It's a Sergio Leone film, who was best known for his spaghetti westerns starring Clint Eastwood. This film runs long at nearly 4 hours but it is an epic film that covers a long span of time. DeNiro and Woods are great and the cinematography and music (by the legendary Ennio Morricone) are second to none. Though not quite on par with The Godfather films, this film should still not be missed by anyone who can appreciate a solid, gangster period piece..KingTaco619Score: 4/5

Terrible movieSergio Leone must have been senile and no one had the heart to tell him this movie was just garbage. It’s only saving grace is the cinematographer’s masterful work, the rustic set design and the sweeping music. The story is there and it has a lot of potential but the plot and characters are not fully developed. Robert Deniro phones in the performance probably his worst acting since ever. Not to mention RAPE all day long in this movie! Robert Deniro is raping EVERYBODY! So if explicit, uncomfortable sexual content isn’t your cup of tea, steer clear.

Great movieThis is a great movie for many reasons, but mostly because of the depth it presents the viewer. This movie isn't simplistic and for the faint of heart. It also isn't for the simple minded. My Favorite FilmI’ve always been a fan of Sergio Leone’s films, and this one takes the cake. The acting is both subtle and overt, but it always works. Leone pours every ounce of effort he’s got into making this film. The score is haunting. Every puzzle piece fits, and the film still surpasses itself. A Greek military hero named Darios visits his uncle in Rhodes in the year 280 BC. Rhodes has just finished constructing an enormous colossus of Apollo to guard its harbor and is planning an alliance with Phoenicia which would be hostile to Greece. Darios flirts with the beautiful Diala, daughter of the statue's mastermind, while becoming involved with a group of rebels headed by Peliocles. These rebels seek to overthrow the tyrannical King Serse as does Serse's evil second-in-command, Thar.
