Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, and Sigourney Weaver star in this visually spectacular and stunningly emotional drama. STAY AWAY!!!This movie was so depressing that our boys (12 and 14) and ourselves (Mom 41, Dad 44, Grandmother 68) all thought it was a thourough waste of mental energy to sit through. Yes the acting is very good. Yes the characters are kind of likeable. Yes the art and scenery is produced with great talent. HOWEVER, the story is a long, drawn-out pointless plot, which is quite predictable, and definetly self-indulgent. By the end,as everything tries to come together, with an underwhelming, rediculous attempt to glue the silly parts all together for a "culmination" of pretty much nothing..Not Great, Not TerribleScore: 2/5
Wonderful movieI like movies almost all genres but fantasy is one of my favorites... my wife, on the other hand, is almost strictly a romcom fan with only the occasional movie from "deeper" genres tickling her fancy. This was one of them. Our daughter also liked it very much. The subject matter is a bit heavy to call this a family pleaser but my 7 year old has been exposed to many movie/theater experiences that would typically be outside the norm to children her age so she took to this movie well.

Imagination and raw and real emotion..This was a beautiful film overall. The acting was raw and real and heart wrenching at times. Felicity Jones does a superb performance as per usual and the young man who plays her son is amazing to watch as his performance equals the talented seasoned cast. Imagination and Fantasy come to life and Liam Neeson is a perfect voice for the Tree as the Monster. A deeply sad and moving film non the less but compelling to watch as it unfolds .. I would not recommend this film for young viewers under the age of 14 as it is very heavy and overwhelming at times due to the boys nightmare and reality he is experiencing. Not what your expectingI don't usually do reviews for movies but this deserved a shout out. It speaks a lot to love, resentment, loss and change. We all have those monsters inside us at times just wanting to scream the truth and how we really feel. This was a keeper for me but if I were looking for a great movie... Most heartbreaking movie I've ever watchedThose movie touched me at a level I never thought a kids movie could reach. The story is one anyone could relate to. The scenes, setting, and dialogue build the walls up around you. But the acting! The acting was phenomenal! I cried! I hurt so bad I cried. Connor O'Malley was not just a character I was watching; he was a person I understood and felt. I raged with him. I screamed with him. This is not just a movie you tuck away after watching.
