Help!Music Feature Films1965

Released in 1965, "HELP!" was the second feature film from The Beatles, who reunited with "A Hard Day's Night" director Richard Lester for the globetrotting comedy. After Ringo becomes unwittingly attached to a mysterious gift from a fan—a sacred ruby ring that gets stuck on his finger—the band goes on the run from a cast of characters who are determined to recover it at any cost. Evading robed cult fanatics, a diabolical scientist, and a hapless troupe of London police, John, Paul, George, and Ringo travel between Buckingham Palace, the Austrian Alps, and the Bahamas, all while delivering seven classic tracks, including "You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Another Girl," and "I Need You."

The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years summary, synopsis, reviews
The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring YearsMusic Documentaries2016

In 1962 four young men - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - came together to form the 20th century musical phenomenon known as 'The Beatles'. The band stormed Europe in 1963 and, in 1964, they conquered America. Their groundbreaking world tours changed global youth culture forever and, arguably, invented mass entertainment as we know it today. All the while, the group were composing and recording a series of extraordinarily successful singles and albums. However, the relentless pressure of such unprecedented fame (which in 1966 became uncontrollable turmoil) led to the decision to stop touring. In the ensuing years The Beatles were then free to focus on a series of albums that changed the face of recorded music. Master storyteller and Oscar winner, Ron Howard, explores this incredible journey in his own unique way: How did The Beatles do this? How did they cope with all the fame and pressure? How did they not only survive, but go on to revolutionise popular music? With original interviews, footage, staggering live performances, and the intimate study of character that Ron Howard is known for, he puts us right inside this extraordinary adventure, answering the question everyone always wants to know: What was it like to be there?

Time Bandits summary, synopsis, reviews
Time BanditsAction & Adventure1981

In this fantastic voyage through time and space from Terry Gilliam, a boy named Kevin (Craig Warnock) escapes his gadget-obsessed parents to join a band of time-traveling dwarfs. Armed with a map stolen from the Supreme Being (Ralph Richardson), they plunder treasure from Napoleon (Ian Holm) and Agamemnon (Sean Connery)?but the Evil Genius (David Warner) is watching their every move. Featuring a darkly playful script by Gilliam and his Monty Python cohort Michael Palin (who also appears in the film), Time Bandits is at once a giddy fairy tale, a revisionist history lesson, and a satire of technology gone awry.

Magical Mystery Tour summary, synopsis, reviews
Magical Mystery TourComedy1988

Magical Mystery Tour—conceived and directed by The Beatles themselves—is a surreal take on the British tradition of a coach trip to the seaside, featuring the band members along with an eccentric cast of characters. The film was originally broadcast in the UK in 1967. While the music, featuring classic tracks like“Magical Mystery Tour,” “The Fool on the Hill,” and “I Am the Walrus,” was rapturously received, the movie was poorly reviewed by TV critics who expected something lighter and more in the style of of A Hard Day’s Night. As a result, the film never aired in the US and was not widely distributed. But now, 45 years on, the rarely seen classic film has been fully restored and is being presented in its original glory for the first time.

Concert for George summary, synopsis, reviews
Concert for GeorgeConcert Films2011

On November 29, 2002, one year after the passing of George Harrison, Olivia Harrison and longtime friend Eric Clapton organised a performance tribute in his honour. His closest friends gathered at London’s Royal Albert Hall to celebrate his life in the only way they knew how – by playing his music. The momentous evening featured George's songs, and music he loved, performed by a lineup that included Clapton, Jools Holland, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Ringo Starr, Dhani Harrison and many more.   Directed by David Leland (Wish You Were Here, HBO’s Band Of Brothers and the Traveling Wilburys video “Handle With Care”), the Grammy¼ Award-winning CONCERT FOR GEORGE captures stunning renditions of some of the most significant music of the 20th century, including “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (featuring Clapton on guitar, McCartney on piano and Starr on drums), “Taxman” (performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and “The Inner Light” (covered by Jeff Lynne and Anoushka Shankar). Lynne, Harrison’s longtime friend and collaborator, produced the audio elements of the concert, while Clapton oversaw the entire proceedings as Musical Director.
