For the first time on screen, I AM WOMAN tells the inspiring story of singer Helen Reddy, who wrote and sang the song “I Am Woman” that became the anthem for the women's movement in the 1970s. The film is a story of fearless ambition and passion, of a woman who smashed through the patriarchal norms of her time to become the international singing superstar she always dreamed of being.
In 1966, Helen Reddy landed in New York with her three year old daughter, a suitcase, and $230 in her pocket. Within weeks, she was broke. Within months, she was in love. Within five years, she was one of the biggest superstars of her time and an icon of the 1970s feminist movement who wrote a song which galvanized a generation of women to fight for change.

Helen Reddy deserved much better.Tilda Cobham-Hervey is a very good actress and I can't wait to see her in future roles. But she didn't for a second convince me that she was Helen Reddy. Her voice, mannerisms, and the way she carries herself is nothing like the real Helen. In her defense since Helen is so well known no actress would be able to take this part and make it believable. The movie starts out slow but then finally picks up some steam about a fourth of the way into it. Big chunks of Helen's life has been cut out of the film. She goes from being an unknown, to a superstar and finally not being able to find a job and in debt due to her husband. Then the movie just ends. It's like they lost two or three reels of film. This really should have been a mini-series. Thanks to itunes for making this available in the United States. Now if you could do the same for the Olivia Newton-John biopic that would be great..Score: 3/5
Loved it!Loved ‘I Am Woman’. I became a fan of Helen Reddy’s when I was a kid and saw her in (the original) Pete’s Dragon. This movie is a great tribute to Helen and it chronicles the struggles she faced while looking for a break in the male-dominated music industry in America during the 70’s - beyond the peak of her success. Tilda Cobham-Hervey did a great job of embodying Helen. Beautiful cinematography, well directed, inspiring story! (Ppl always complain that there are things left out - difficult to cover 20+ years in a couple of hours)..Score: 5/5

Peep thisAlthough, not a perfect film, I am woman does an amiable job at introducing Helen Reddy to a generation who may not be aware of who she is or her impact on both music and the feminist movement. I grew up listening to her to her many radio hits and am the proud owner of her entire musical catalogue. I watched her on tv and in film, read her biography and have been a life long fan. I am woman, the film, gives a pretty honest portrayal of Helen’s struggle for success and for equality in a male dominated industry. It doesn’t shy away from the difficult moments in her life and highlights her achievement as a feminist icon. As she now struggles with dementia, I hope she can look back over her history and be proud of her many accomplishments..Score: 4/5
