Wow!This movie has some of the worst graphics I've ever seen. Because of the crappy graphics, the movie is so good! I suggest this movie to almost everybody, except for younger kids that don't have the good feeling for when it comes to gore, or some of the brief nudity in the film. Slaughtered the bookFor those of you who have had to watch this movie, I'm sorry and I feel your pain. For those those of you who have not seen this movie, I envy you. The only thing that this abomination of a movie shares with the book is the title, some names and a lot of misrepresented events. A mans show.I have to rate this movie a 10 out of 10. It is sad to say but it touched me on so many levels. I will describe in a few words why I love it so much. 1. Giant bugs 2. Nukes 3. BRAINLESS!Hey, I like popcorn epics as much as the next guy but this waste of celluloid is so BRAINLESS it's intolerable! About the only thing it's got going for itself is Denise Richards' rack and that's it! Stupid plot aside, it's pretty sad when you have characters that you just don't care about enough to hope that "they make it". How in heaven can some viewers describe it as "a masterpiece"?? WOW! Not as supid as some would have you believe ...This movie is such an entertainingly high-energy schlockfest that you might almost miss the fact that it presents you with some pretty uncomfortable and extremely funny political satire. Somewhere at the back of your mind, while you're cheering the grunts blowing up the gruesome bugs, you'll feel the uncomfortable realization that you've been maneuvered into rooting for the stormtroopers of a fascist society where you're either in the military or you don't have a vote, and where barely trained soldiers are sent to the slaughter on the front lines without a second thought. Verhoeven almost achieves with 'Starship Troopers' what he did with 'Robocop' -- a biting, black comedy that's smarter than it seems..Score: 4/5
Absolutely StupidThis movie is horrible. Not only does the director entirely miss everything RAH said in the book, but he completely put his own warped take on it all. The book does not glorify war, it makes a statement about the men and women who go in harms way. It speaks of an alternate form of democracy where voting it a priviledge that must be earned rather than a right conferred by birth. It also points out the terrible cost to those how willingly place themselves between society and harm. All in all, a thought provolking manuscript if you have the wit to understand it. Otherwise, just foolishly buy into the crap version on the small screen..Score: 1/5

Maybe I'm Just Old Fashioned...You know what? Despite the harsh comments previously made on this movie, I like it! It sort of defines the type of movie my friends and I live for, and I think that it's a classic. I understand that alot of people prefer to read the book BEFORE the movie comes out; I'm with them! But without reading the book (which I've not been able to find anywhere) I think the movie becomes a little bit more powerful to the viewer..Score: 4/5
One of the worst movies of all timeAn excellent book transformed into visual drivel by those who couldn't, or wouldn't, understand it - or even the simple scientific basics of space travel for that matter (stars are FAR apart; things in orbit don't fall because they are already falling). Anyone who thinks RAH was either fascist or glorifying war needs to re-read the book. Sampling some of RAH's other work wouldn't hurt either. The themes of the movie directly contradict those of the book: mindless violence inflicted on unprofessional, poorly trained cannon fodder by a heartless, fascist society, in harsh contrast to Heinlein's story of a desperate but measured reaction conducted by professional soldiers on behalf of a society that values those that put themselves in harms way for the benefit of all. A portrayal of a fighting force that starts off reeling and disorganized in the face of alien aggression but first copes and then wins. If anything is idealized in the book it is the picture of justified warfare (us or them, vs an enemy that can't even talk) which provoked Joe Haldeman's "rebutting" portrayal of pointless war in "The Forever War". Both books are excellent with plenty of value for those willing to make the effort to get to it. This shallow, vacant, scientifically ignorant movie is an insult to both. Don't waste your time on it - go read the books..Score: 1/5
A masterpiece!This is one of the few movies I can watch over and over and never get bored. I think the storyline is great, and the characters well-defined. According to me, they all get what they deserve at the end, which is great! The action is just awesome. Lots of gore, which goes with the sarcastic tone of the movie. Not understanding this tone seems to lead to bad reviews :P.Score: 5/5
