Based on the true life story of William Wilberforce, a leader of the British abolition movement, Amazing Grace chronicles his epic struggle to pass a law to end the slave trade in the late 18th century. Along the way, Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) meets intense opposition from members of Parliament who feel the slave trade is tied to the stability of the British Empire. Several friends, including Wilberforce’s minister, John Newton (Albert Finney), a reformed slave ship captain who penned the beloved hymn "Amazing Grace," urge him to see the cause through.
A documentary about the tragedies that transform us, but also about love and humor as the engine of existence.

Amazing MovieI saw this with my fellow Anti-Slavery advocates in eighth grade. I was completely blown away!!! This movie is amazing, with a wonderful cast, and I believe that they couldn't have done it better. I highly reccomend this movie, seeing as I'm an easily bored person, yet I stayed well awake throughout the entire movie! Watch!!.Score: 5/5
Amazing movie truly portraying the story behind amazing grace.This movie is a must see. It portrays an imporatant time in history, and has the main character being a Godly man (awesome!!). This movie is a must see for anyone that enjoys any movie that is historical..., or Biblically inspired..., or has some romance..., or has some suspense...., or just enjoys a great movie!!!! This is a great movie worth every penny, especially for anyone who is following the Lord's plan for their life and is looking for a movie that is inspiring and based on a true story of a Bilical man. This movie can show you that it is not always easy for you to follow the plan that hte Lord has for you, but it is always, ALWAYS possible. (And most likely easy compared to what William Wilberforce, the man that the story is about, had to endure and accomplish.) p.s. If you enjoyed this movie, i would recommend the movie THE FINAL INQUIRY. The Film Seems Confused...This isn't exactly a film that will go down in cinematic history. No, in fact, I think very few people even remember this. The acting, while well done, seems a little too over itself. The writing and directing's boring -- there's nothing exciting with the visual presentation or cinematography: think of it has a History Channel documentary with high production values. Seriously, this isn't a film worth the watch, and I'm only giving 3 stars because, while forgettable, it has some likable moments. Those moments are few, whether it be the history aspect, or some of the set designs. All in all, a film not worth space on your iPod, but worth a rent............ on DVD. Because you'll want to bring it back as soon as you see it. It doesn't garner a second-viewing. Rent/but don't..Score: 3/5
