Evil resides in an unexpected place in this gripping, suspense-filled drama. Macaulay Culkin stars as Henry, an angelic-looking boy who seems loving and loyal to his parents, sister and friends. Only his cousin Mark (Elijah Wood) sees what lurks behind Henry's smile - secret thoughts and a love of deadly games. But when Mark tries to warn Henry's family, they won't believe him, leaving the terrified youngster alone to battle his jealous, menacing cousin.
A young boy stays with his aunt and uncle, and befriends his cousin who's the same age. But his cousin begins showing increasing signs of psychotic behavior.

A surprisingly powerful film with more than meets the eyeMacaulay Culkin's performance in this film is excellent, as he shifts from the innocent, good-natured Kevin McAllister in Home Alone to the complex, "evil", and disturbing character in The Good Son. His performance really is impressive. Elijah Wood's performance is less noteworthy, but all the same is a surprisingly realistic performance from such a young actor. I found that the film had many more layers other than the obvious battle between good and evil. This film was actually panned by nearly all major film critics, even Ian McEwan, the author of the movie's namesake, the novel The Good Son, felt that many parts of the novel were sacrificed in order to satisfy the production company's desire to have Culkin front-and-center. Wendy Crewson also gives a great supporting performance as the evil Henry's (Culkin) mother..Score: 5/5
Evil comes in small packages...I first saw this movie as a teenager and I thought it was great! Considering that Macaulay Culkin got his first claim to fame as an actor in the movie Home Alone, no one in the 90s would’ve expected him to take such a dark turn and play a genuinely evil kid in this movie. But he’s really good at playing the chilling title role, a family’s supposedly “good son” in this tense and terrifying thriller. Elijah Wood is terrific as Mark, the boy who must battle evil Henry alone when no one believes his warnings about how dangerous Henry is. A living nightmare for fans of really scary movies that are truly suspenseful! Bestselling author Todd Strasser wrote a great movie tie-in that should be made available as an iBook..Score: 5/5

Ok movieThe idea for the plot was great, although it was slow to develop. Culkins acting was supurb and makes me think of him in a new light now. The movie could of have been longer with more action.
