A stranger is caught cheating in a game of five card stud in a Rincon, Colorado saloon in 1880. Van Morgan (Dean Martin) unsuccessfully tries to save the gambler's life as the other five players lynch the cheat. Meanwhile, a gold rush has brought a group of outsiders to Rincon, like gun-toting preacher Jonathan Rudd (Robert Mitchum) and Lily Langford (Inger Stevens), with her collection of beautiful lady "barbers." When two townspeople are murdered, Van remembers that both victims were playing in the fatal card game. Tension mounts as the killer stalks the other players until, at last, two of the principals confront each other and, with a showdown gunfight, the case of the five card stud game murders is closed.

5 Card StudThis is a fun movie to watch. It doesn't depend on a big budget, but tells a good story. I remember seeing it as a kid and loving it. Český Sedm mužů se zúčastní vyostřené partie pokeru, která se zvrhne v lynč. Neznámý nováček je přistižen při karetním švindlu a zbytek osazenstva u stolu ho proto neváhá pro výstrahu oběsit. Vražednému běsnění se jako jediný vzepře vyhlášený karbaník Van Morgen, který ale skončí v bezvědomí a nedokáže činu zabránit. Hráč s falešnou kartou zemře, ale jeho smrt nezůstane dlouho bez odezvy. Účastníci nezdravé karetní sešlosti začínají jeden po druhém umírat násilnou smrtí. Zbývajícím hráčům je zřejmé, že jeden z nich musí mít vraždění osobně na svědomí. Nelítostný Van Morgen se proto vrací na místu činu s vědomím, že se může snadno stát další obětí. V městečku mezitím začíná působit nový kazatel Rudd, který od svého příjezdu musel pochovat už několik zavražděných mužů. Neváhá se proto stát samozvaným svědomím města a tasit v případě nutnosti nabitý kolt, aby zabránil dalšímu krveprolití.
