A steamy Western which stars Glenn Ford as an itinerant cowpoke who takes a cattle ranch job on the estate of Ernest Borgnine. Drama occurs when the ranch-owner's wife (Valerie French), who's been with cowpoke Rod Steiger, turns her amorous attentions in Ford's direction.

Jubal Troop is a cowboy who is found in a weakened condition, without a horse. He is given shelter at Shep Horgan's large ranch, where he quickly makes an enemy in foreman Pinky, a cattleman who accuses Jubal of carrying the smell of sheep.

Another Great Daves WesternSure, John Ford was good. But, Delmer Daves gave us BROKEN ARROW, 3:10 TO YUMA (the superior 1957 original), and this incredibly suspenseful drama, JUBAL. In JUBAL there is a wonderful mix of veteran actors (e.g. Noah Beery Jr.) and then-new (e.g. Charles Bronson, Felicia Farr) actors. Daves was a great director. Unlike John Ford, there's little or no padding in his films. Characterization and plot evolve naturally..Rock HoundScore: 5/5
