Following a bloody civil war, young Ofelia enters a world of unimaginable cruelty when she moves in with her new stepfather, a tyrannical military officer. One of the most violent films I’ve ever watchedThe trailer for this film (when it originally came out) was VERY deceiving. You think you might go on a dark and magical journey through some fantasy realm when really thats not what you get when you watch this. What you get is a war film and how a child’s imagination deals with it. The line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred for her. I did not buy that the fantasy stuff was really happening at all even though it was genius in conception/design.
Watch this movie if you want a violent foreign war film. Do not view it for the fantasy component because those are few and far between and lost under the crushing reality of violence..AMJ33Score: 3/5

Der sadistische Hauptmann ist von der Regierung mit der Zerschlagung des Widerstandes beauftragt worden und geht mit grausamen Methoden gegen die Rebellen und vermeintliche Sympathisanten vor. Ofelia flüchtet sich währenddessen in die Fantasiewelt ihrer Bücher, die von Elfen und andere Kreaturen bevölkert ist. Eines Tages erscheint ihr in einem Labyrinth in der Nähe des Landsitzes ein Pan, der ihr offenbart, dass sie in Wirklichkeit eine Königstochter aus einem unterirdischen Königreich sei. Český Píše se rok 1944 a dvanáctiletá Ofélie jede se svou těhotnou matkou za otčímem, frankistickým důstojníkem, který kdesi v horách na severu Španělska potlačuje zbytky republikánského povstání. Život ve vojenské posádce ale nenabízí Ofélii pouze realitu poznamenanou boji s povstalci, všeobecným nedostatkem jídla a velmi chladným vztahem s otčímem – v nedalekém starodávném labyrintu potká dívka jednou v noci starého fauna, který ji prozradí, že je ztracenou princeznou kdysi mocné pohádkové říše a současně poslední nadějí na její záchranu. Než se ale opět setká se svým královským otcem, musí splnit několik úkolů. Fascinující podívaná a silný příběh o tom, že ve světě dětské fantazie se za život, čest a odvahu platí stejná cena jako ve světě dospělých.
