Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.

Well doneInterest in one movie genre or another ebbs and flows. The past week or so, I felt like I wanted to see a western, a feeling which comes over me maybe once a decade. I thought about dusting off an old Clint Eastwood, something like The Good The Bad and The Ugly. To my great luck, however, True Grit presented itself upon a quick search. I didn't know anything about the movie, but Jeff Bridges was in it and I have been enjoying his hard boiled acting as of late. Matt Damon was listed in the credits too, and he usually puts on an engaging show. So I put my $5 rental money on the table and settle back to watch the movie. As others have noted, the dialogue is a quirky joy to listen to and the acting suits. The story is gritty, sweet and well-paced. The movie was a pleasure to watch, a true little pleasure. Sorry not as good as originalHave seen both original and remake the only difference between the 2, I found was that in remake mattie lost her arm and in the original they had LeBeouf die. But otherwise the John Wayne version and the remake were preety much the same and both basically followed the book. I found the remake: the actors like Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon were just reciting lines. Matt Damon seemed a liitl stiff..PMO!Score: 3/5
