His seemingly inexplicable behavior concerns and confounds those closest to him, but the resulting strain on his marriage and tension within his community can’t compare with Curtis’s privately held fear of what his dreams may truly signify. Take Shelter features fully realized characters crumbling under the weight of real-life problems. Using tone and atmosphere to chilling effect, Nichols crafts a powerful psychological thriller that is a disturbing tale for our times.

I -do-not-know-anythingThe starting of the movie, with its enigmatic soundtrack and Curtis looking at the dark storming sky, told me that I was withnessing something special. The director presents an incredible story where the pace moves back and forth from the mundane of a happy family to the most drramatic moments, unbeliavably performed by Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. An incredible screenplay, beutifully structured, describing the internal conflic of Shannon, a hard worker with a happy family, convinced that his apocalyptical nightmares are telling him to rush to protect his family, and the menace of schizofrenia inheritated from her mother. The harmonized mixture of oniric landscames and the music of David Wingo keep the enigmatic pace throughout the movie. It is definitely one of the best surpring movies I've seen in the last year. By the way: if you are one of the hollywood-apocalyptic crap consumers (and yes! get offended!), forget about it ! There is no display of apocaliptical cities with dumb zombies waiting to be shot. The climax of the movie is not in its end, by in its last 30 minutes.,,and in the ambibalency that it lefts behind...worth reflecting about it..Score: 5/5

UnexpectedNot something that would generally interest me, but this pulled me to the very end. There is no doubt that it moves along slow, but it builds as it moves along. The ending was, well, decide for yourself. Very good movie!.Score: 5/5

Amazing MovieThis is my first movie review…I had to write about this movie. It's hands down excellent. Most days I feel like a crazy person warning my family and friends of so many things that have come true. There are days I just want to shake people and say, "Can you see what f@#$K is going on?" Most days I feel like no one listens. So, as I watched this movie and it pulled me in with every strange detail, that I over analyzed, I hoped that this man wasn't crazy. I sat watching the movie praying that he wasn't crazy, like if he wasn't crazy then neither am I. Now, I've read many of these reviews that were bored…and I'm sure it was boring to them. However, if you've ever had that recurring dream, that feeling like you knew something was coming, and people around you wanting to give you medication for your insanity then you just might find this movie soothing and reassuring. On a regular basis I'm predicting the future wishing my head would stop coming up with random things to worry about. With that in mind, I appreciated that this movie could tell a story in two short hours to show those of you that are skeptics that we may not be crazy after all. I have to add I cried for hours at the end of this movie and couldn't sleep until 7 am when my husband would be awake to watch it with me again. It touched my soul. I was speechless at the end….Score: 5/5

Take Shelter..FANTASTIC MOVIE!!From start to finish, Take Shelter had me glued to the set. Michael Shannon was brilliant. IMHO he was robbed not receiving an Oscar nomination. Nice little twist at the end. Haunting soundtrack..Score: 5/5

A Low-Budget Flick That's as Real as it GetsI can't remember the last time I'd ever seen a movie as real as this one is. The writer, the producer, and the director clearly have their fingers on the pulse of contemporary American life, and what it feels like for ordinary, everyday Americans. Great MovieI like ALL kinds of movies if they are worth while. This movie was slow but its not boring; Its slow to build the tension and unease that the main character feels. Don't worry though, watching this movie is worth it and the last bit of the movie MAKES IT a stand out. There aren't many other movies like this out there. If you're wondering about seeing it, go for it - the last bit of the movie is just fantastic. A classic for the family man struggling to stay in line with is life and family as he sees things slipping away. GO SEE IT (I would give it 4.5 stars if it was an option)..Score: 4/5

Heartbreaking and cathartic by the endI had been looking forward to seeing this film as my friends had recommended it and I loved the trailer. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more. The surprise for me was how moved I was by Michael Shannon's performance - I was expecting more of an X-Files feel but ended up feeling as sad for Curtis as I did for Christopher Walken's Johnny Smith character in Cronenberg's The Dead Zone. I wept as he tried so hard to understand his condition and not disturb the dynamics of his family. The final moments of the film made me feel strangely satisfied that Curtis' attempts to do the good he tried to do were not out of madness - and like the good man he was, he showed no satisfaction he was right, only continual concern and love for his family, as the end was upon them..Score: 4/5
ExcellentNot sure how much of a "horror" film this actually is but it certainly is worth the rent in HD. I enjoyed it and it kept me on my toes the entire 2 hours. Kudos to the actors who made it so realistic. Sure I love zombies and what not, but suspense and thrills unseen are just as good!.Score: 5/5

Yawn!!!This is without a doubt one of the worst movies I have spent 2 hours of my life wasting. The characters are unbelievable and the story is laughable. It plods along with one predictable scene after another to one of the corniest conclusions I've seen in many years. This is a low budget non thriller, it will please people with little imagination to no imagination and your not that kind of person. Please save your money and go somewhere else..Score: 1/5
