Beautiful SharksWow, despite the negative reviews I decided to go ahead and rent this film and I really enjoyed it. As someone who has always been intrigued and humbled by these amazing creatures I could easily relate to the main character's passion. I think folks who are going into this looking for the usual shark feeding frenzy are clearly going to be disappointed. This is not the standard shark flick. Very poorThere is precisely one good thing about this movie - rather that the standard Hollywood tendency to treat sharks like horror movie monsters, they had a fairly realistic portrayal of shark behavior.
Unfortunately, to get a realistic shark attack in, they made the humans rock-stupid, including Halle Berry’s character, who was supposed to be an expert on sharks. (With all of the dive safety red flags shown by characters in this movie, I wouldn’t trust them to dive in a swimming pool, let alone around great whites.) It’s not even cheesy fun, because all of the terrible decision-making is treated like serious drama, without the writing or acting talent to pull it off. It didn’t hold together, it was often boring, and the entire plot was slowly dragging towards a painfully obvious conclusion..J9731Score: 1/5
