The second best movie in my library;Days long gone when movies weren’t compromised corporate marketing gimics... which this movie infact is fighting, and was far beyond it’s time in warning us of the corporate state.
the individuality of an actors’ character and intelligent dialogue was the feat in the 70s; sound staging genius, not seen in the decades since.
redford’s authenticity was during a time when director’s could still choreograph their own film crews and encourage creative gusto. Today audiences are starved for such meaty movies.
...to find this standard today, we can no longer find such depth in US movies but in eastern Poland and Sweden and the like where areas not yet under the corporate strangle-hold. A film for the that defines the early '70sAmerican journalism is not fake news...this is what American journalism is. How many people choose careers because of this endlessly watchable movie. Redford and Hoffman were at the top of their careers. I have to give tip top marks to the supporting cast, especially Jason Robards, Jr.. Script and direction are right on the money. If you were not of the 70's or can't remember those years it is impossible to understand what Watergate was and how big this story became. ABC, CBS, NBC were all we had nationally for evening news & of course public broadcasting was only about ten years old. No matter what you were watching...and you waited all week for it, marked in your TV Guide, shows would suddenly be pre-empted and go to Watergate hearings that any kid hated but were so important. Back then the daily paper was the portal to the the city, the nation and the world in only one section each, but man you felt informed and this movie is about the two underdogs who scooped everyone all the way to the biggest story of them all in the 1970's I remember so well! Ve zveřejnění skandálu kolem tajných fondů a diskreditace politických oponentů se angažovali reportéři Robert Woodward a Carl Bernstein, kteří působili v novinách Washington Post. Paradokumentární drama, v němž slavný tandem ztělesnili Robert Redford a Dustin Hoffman, vypráví o novinářské odvaze, trpělivosti a důslednosti. Reportéři skládají svá odhalení z desítek faktů a svědeckých výpovědí. Narážejí na neochotu svědků, jejich strach z eventuálních následků i na tlaky z nejvyšších sfér. Woodward využívá tajemného informátora (Hal Halbrook) z vládních kruhů, který se ním setkává v podzemních garážích.

Od roku 1972 začali pracovať na politickej kauze Watergate, ktorá vtedy prepukla a otriasla novodobými dejinami USA. Novinárom, ktorí postupne rozpletajú nitky kauzy okolo vysoko postavených politikov začína ísť o život.
